Ok so I’ve switched my phone assistant to have a British accent and also switching from Advil to Phensic and from Alka Seltzer to Enos Fruit Salts, But this bloody Ovaltine really makes you sweat like a horse. Think I’ll just have a Guinness ole chap.
Hopefully this will bring more balance between our neighbors to the North and also the Chinese. The Bahamas and The Caribbean are hotspots for economic development but there’s too much social decay, drug and gun culture and violence that is NOT Bahamian and not Caribbean.
When you have foreign ‘book smart’ but practically inexperienced coming to a multi-Island nation ant attempting to apply a model that was designed for a company operating on a single land mass. And it never works. Not with BTC, not with Alive, not with WSC, not with BPL. They fire or retire a lot of workers and hire even more back. And now even the banks are finding it difficult to operate and turn a profit. Each island requires a mini company or subsidiary of its own. And so labor becomes expensive. Overhead is more than a company with a traditional structure and transportation expenses and movement of equipment and supplies as well. Before mid summer BPL will be rehiring workers and so one must wonder if this is just a scheme to cause workers to lose tenure and their benefits.
And some of the bodies, from time to time, are immigrants. Some illegal where the next of kin cannot be contacted or don’t have the means of securing the body for burial.
So basically between the two morgues, they are storing an average of two months accumulation of dead bodies. And since most funerals are planned for two weeks after the death occurs, this does not seem inordinate. And of course, some families claim that when persons die under unusual circumstances weeks may pass before the body is released. and since most adults who die are covered by a death benefit of $600.00, the minister should seek to have this benefit increased to at least $1,200.00, based on his admission of the cost to bury abandoned bodies. he should then seek to have the benefit for unclaimed bodies remitted to the hospital's authority. This would ensure there will be no excessive accumulation of unclaimed bodies and persons who are financially embarrassed can be assured that their loved ones who pass will be interred properly and in a timely manner. Increasing fees on bodies that probably will not be collected in the first instance will not generate additional revenue. In fact if the fees become too costly the result may be more bodies being unclaimed.
Well tariffs were also supposed to be ‘out the window ‘ with the WTO but that didn’t stop Donald Trump from slapping them on products imported from China, Mexico and other countries. And even though China has made official complaints to the WTO, it, itself has placed tariffs in a number of products being imported from the US. So essentially there is selective rod WTO rules and likewise with the EU. While they have literally obliterated the offshore banking industry in The Bahamas and other smaller nations, the US and other countries have doubled their offshore banking markets. In fact the US now controls 25 percent of the market. And while The Bahamas is listed as a ‘no cooperative narco-trafficking state’, eighty percent of all cocaine enters the US through California and the Mexican boarder. More gets in through New York and less than 2 percent passes through The Bahamas. And one can see what is happening with Syria.
The Chinese have major controls of parts of the Panam Canal. They are building hotels in Jamaica and other Caribbean coo and doing major works in African countries where they were able to buy interest in the various projects.
If you check most Chinese construction projects around the world from Jamaica to Africa to Panama the majority of labor is always Chinese. Always. And when the Chinese do not get this stipulation in the original agreement, they find some way to muddy toe water and cause their majority Chinese labor force to become acceptable or accepted. But in two short years Chinese are be the greatest number of world travelers. They will surpass the Americans by some 40 Million travelers and so they are in various parts of the world making preparations for this surge in Chinese tourists and to ensure that some of the money these people spend abroad makes its way back to China. And likewise the Bahamas must be taking measures to ensure that many of these Chinese tourists visit The Bahamas and a great portion of what the spend remains here. The largest cruise ship may be visiting these shores this summer and the claim is this ship has everything a passenger could wish for. More effort to keep passengers on board and not spending money at the various ports of call. Proof that cruise ships and nothing more than modern day piracy. But the majority of Chinese tourists are air travelers with lost more money to spend and plans for longer vacations. So it is time to get the Chinese to cooperate and allow The Bahamas and Bahamians to take a pice of this growing economic pie.
