Most of the crime in this country is police generated! Keep your boots on whilst I explain: it started back in the 1980’s with the so called ‘war on drugs.’ This so called ‘ war on drugs’ was actually a ‘war on Black people, and especially Black men.’ Where police were instructed to drive into Black neighborhoods , site a ‘suspect’ make that eye contact with him until he feels uncomfortable and decides to move away or even run. The police then move in, tackle him question why he run. And sometimes when the ‘suspect’ is clean and innocent, the dirty cops with the blessings of their superiors will plant evidence on the suspect ( gun, drugs, stolen items) and book the individual. And because he is unable to afford s defense attorney he goes to jail on a long time and is innocent. And don’t say it doesn’t happen here, don’t say there are not dirty cops here ( just follow a case that is now the coroner’s court). Don’t say profiling does not happen here, where young men are not targeted, searched, many times intimidated and harassed by police, Some even lose their lives. Two and three at a time sometimes at the hands of police, Then there’s the Kemp Road incident. So what is the point? The point is a lot of the crime in this country will not cease until the police force, including its top brass, end the war on young, Black men. You police force and police men and women ( because there was a woman police officer who was carrying on worse than the men, roughing up the young men verbally and physically abusing them. Making it patently obvious that she had other things going on in her life that make proper and ordered policing impossible). You cannot continue yo assume every young man in this country is a suspect, Then assault, harass, intimidate them ( break their balls) and even arrest and put false charges on them. You must, Mr Comissioner, end the war on your young people, Stop these full body searches in the middle of the streets even in high traffic. It makes the police officers look worse than the suspects when they go in a persons wallet and drawers and shoes in the middle of the the streets. There should be a a pat down etc to ensure that the suspects have no weapons and the officers are safe. But if a search beyond that is necessary then inform the suspects of the suspicion and of their rights then take them to a police station and do the rest of your police work there. It is sickening to see young men being strip searched in the middle of the streets. Don’t wait until this country gets like the US with 211 mass shootings for the year ( yes 2023) before you end your war on young men. You must eliminate the need for anyone in this country to say, ‘ If they ( police) gonna treat me like a criminal, I may as well be one.’ And remind your officers they will be accountable for their actions . Especially when they operate outside the law,

The police were getting new vehicles from time ago. Yes, the vehicles are a necessity and should be reliable and in great running condition. BUT the commissioner did not misspeak ( virtually) when he said he need more boots on the ground. Foot patrols in some areas, bicycle patrols in others. Make the police presence a part of the community presence. Not just rolling through a community full speed and the a/c on ‘Alaska’

Is this Brent’s cute way of saying’if your son is gay and he brings his significant other ( another dude) to The Bahamas, then that significant other should also be entitled to a work permit. Likewise for two females sharing the same pillow. Disney just canceled a $1 Billion project in Florida because the Governor of that state decided to put a cuff on Disney and restrict them from allowing alternative lifestyles ( transgender) to be taught to children under 7 years old.

John says...

Let me get this right… a cruise ship passenger sails all the way to The Bahamas and spends all his/her time at the port ‘ chilling and does not venture out to experience/ explore Nassau. A Bahamian goes all the way to Florida and hangs out in the airport until it’s time to come home? Doesn’t sound logical. BUT the tourist product does need much more tweaking, polishing and fine tuning to ensure this does not happen. Exit surveys say ‘tourists want more things to do in Nassau, more excitement and more activities. And they want to experience more Bahamian. And that is the problem. Bahamians need to be more included in the tourist experience. And not in an artificial way.

If The Bahamian government doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude ( ok testicular fortitude which is now considered a chauvinist remark) to deny bail to murderers or execute persons who committed multiple murders, how far away when rapists will be killed Or castrated? Least you forge, rape is not a sex crime, it is a crime of violence. The person is using angry depressed, themselves feel they have been taken advantage of, or in a situation over which they feel they have no control. And when they rape, they are given a sense of power, if dominance of control. That is rape in the true sense, not spousal rape, not date rape, not when sex was promised but denied. So the authorities must find out what is driving the recent and disturbing spike in rapes and sexual assaults. And yes swift and harsh punishment must be meted out. Chemical ncastration with jail time. But putting a rapist to death may be an overkill

Obviously the company is fronting for another company, most likely a foreign company. And if Dames is involved, just make sure it’s not like the drones he bought for triple the price and even then they were not suitable for the conditions in The Bahamas. Since a ‘ modern prison facility has never been built in this country and since it was suggested somewhere that the building will be high rise or multi-floored, at least, one would expect that competent and experienced contractors will be used. And the bidding process does allow for Bahamian companies to partner with foreign companies, depending on who is providing the financing, but O, this contract never went out to bid. Just dropped in someone’s lap, apparently by Tight pants Marvin.

It is not a small pot of gold needed no fought over so none will give it up without putting up a strong fight.

John says...

Many do not realize this is still a very ‘pot of gold’ the assets of FTX and depending on who gets control of the liquidation process will determine largely who gets paid and by what amounts. Many feel they stand a better chance of getting some or more of their investments back if the company was wound up in The BaHAMAS, if only the Bahamas arm. The list and order of creditors who will get paid differs in The Bahamas from the courts in Delaware. And persons ( US citizens) who had ‘offshore investments’ in FTX may be timid to apply to the Delaware court/ liquidators to collect them for obvious reasons.

BTC has slipped back to its presale to Digicel personality. It’s service is deplorable and many products are not available. For example the phone selection on mobile devices may be limited to two or three models. BTC has an app that is supposed to alert customers when their bill is overdue or fir, but this app sends out messages almost on a daily basis and even after the bill is paid, the subscriber continues to be bombarded with threats of harassment and having their phone or internet services disconnected. There had to be some law against this. If you sign up for BTC’s fiber upgrade, be prepared for ‘the bump.’ Sometimes it takes up to three months to get the system installed and be blessed if you find anything worth watching on their cable tv, but despite these shortcomings, BTC seems to be outselling Slive on internet and top up services. Many believe Aliv services are overpriced and too expensive . For example Liv’s mi-Fi box costs around $100 and can only be topped up with a $75 package that may barely last two weeks, BTC’ mi-fi box costs $45.00 and comes with a $17,00 data package, and the package can be renewed for $17,00

Does this company even have a track record or experience in construction? They were known as a solar and electronics company and was getting all of government’s work in those fields, especially on the family islands. And since the method of the awarding of the contract raises eyebrows. Is this company fronting for a foreign company to come in and construct the prison? Seems like corruption if only in the awarding process.
