After 12 years BTC still has vendors working on a 3% margin. This is after the introduction of VAT, the increase in minimum wage and all the other increases associated with retail business in this country. May they continue to fire them all until the small man fire justice. Where is Marlon Johnson these days #$1 million phone cards
“The dead could only speak through the mouths of those left behind, and through the signs they left scattered behind them.” ― Robert Galbraith, The Cuckoo's Calling
If that is a recent pic of Perry Christie we all have cause for concern: they may be dying (at least spiritually) faster than we can bury them.
As for B J Nottage: "“There is only one way to fight, and that's dirty. Clean gentlemanly fighting will get you nowhere but dead, and fast. Take every cheap shot, every low blow, absolutely kick people when they're down, and maybe you'll be the one who walks away.” ― Jeaniene Frost, Halfway to the Grave
If you look at the state of affairs at BEC there had to be massive thefts or mismanaged or both for BEC to have degraded to this level and to still be so sunken in debt. And the theft does not only involve cash, but also electricity, equipment and supplies and manpower hours. And if someone does not go to jail with all this exposure of t'iefin going on in government and government corporations we all may as well quit our jobs and start tiefin too. It is virtually impossible for the common man to endure the high cost of living and still pay government taxes too. Now word has it that some BEC employees have means of speeding up consumers meters causing them to pay more electricity while slowing their own matters and having lower light bills. This borders on treason and these people need to be identified, prosecuted and sent to jail. Then the cost of living will be reduced for every one, government will be able to pay its bills and have its credibility restored.
So what the FNM is saying is correct some 1/2 billion or close to it was abused, misused or misappropriated in the last year of PLP governance alone. And if they have effectively put a stop to that financial hemorrhage and if they gonna get Bah Mar up, open and running and if they are going to stimulate the economy and create new (real) growth then Moody's should be looking to upgrade and not looking st another downgrade.
In many instances it was the government who demolished the building or cleared the property yet thehave it listed many years later as a taxable property.
Government definitely needs to retool and retrain its personnel in the Department of Inland Revenue. Some of the rudest, unskilled and untrained people seem to work in that department. Especially in the property tax collection area. Last year they had persons out delivering writs to people, some who had already paid their taxes or had made arrangements with the department. Some persons were served with writs because they had the same name as the person who owned the property in question. Then they were told that they had to go in and clear their name. Now they have persons calling and once you tell them you don't own the property they are demanding that you tell them who does. How do they expect you to know who owns a payout don't own? Then the value of property the government claims it outstanding is definitely overstated. Grossly so. Apparently a number of properties the government is trying to collect taxes on have delapidated and uninhabitable buildings on them. Some are occupied by vagrants and in some cases the buildings have been completely demolished. And this has been the situation from 10, 15, 20 years ago. But yet government is assessing taxes on these properties and adding interest. So a property that may show taxes owing for thousands of dollars may have been vacant of delapidated for many years.
Some media are reporting that the downgrade is based solely on the Minnis' government statements that the financial conditions of the country are much worse than was expected and the outlook for growth and debt reduction for the next few years is not to exciting.
