Why do these Unca Toms always believe it is wrong to charge non-Bahamians taxes ? This idiot knows full well that most of Florida and the boating community is still displaced due to two major hurricanes hitting that state in a matter of weeks. A number of marinas and boats have been damaged or destroyed and other vessels have been relocated to avoid the hurricanes. Add to that raging inflation which has driven up the costs of boating, especially fuel and driven down the number of boaters. I will guarantee this dude had adjusted his prices for inflation, so why does he think government is not entitled to collect reasonable taxes on a luxury industry?
Most of the address sounded like political rhetoric. The AG sounded like he was at a political rally beginning for support rather than like he was delivering facts.
There was a mass shooting incident in Colorado over the weekend where a 22 y/o shot up a gay club, killing five people and injuring 20 more. The significance of this incident is ( one) this is the first murder in this community in seven years so it left the community in shock. ( two) while the shooter thought he was shooting up a gay club, a lot of his victims were not gay, but was attending a pageant (albeit drag) at the club that night. ( three) that the shooter had tried to kill his own mother recently with a homemade bomb. ( four) that the shooter had tried on several occasions before the incident, to purchase weapons but was denied, but were eventually allowed to purchase the ones he used in this incident. And four, had the police responded to his mom’s call when she told them that he had these weapons in his possession, he would not have been able to carry out his attack on the gay club.
So maybe The Mercedes Benz Company, the NBA, pro baseball and over 1 million creditors did not do due diligence with FTX? Unless one had access to the inner workings of that company there was little else that could be done to prevent what happened from happening in the timeframe it happened. And according to the CEO in his apologies, his intention was not to hurt anyone ( financially) and the demise of FTX came about due to gross miscalculations ( taking a great, huge gamble) on his part.. and if it had not been discovered ( leaked) FTX may still have been operating normally today.
Another opportunity to bash men.. and hell no, I have no sympathy or tolerance for men who raped. But reading the article within the context of what is going on in the country: these women activists want equality, more rights and more protection ( from rape). Men can argue also that they need more protection from murder especially. And they don’t need to it to qualify that it is young, men or even , more specifically that it is young , Black men or young, Black, Bahamian men that are the mot common victims of murder in this country. So no need to segregate crime. Rape is rape and the female is not the only victim. Her , spouse, children, and also loved ones must share in her experience and her being violated just as those of victims of murder do.
Is government ‘stepping in a private transaction’ or doing due diligence? To many foreigners are hording Bahamian land with the hopes of earning huge windfalls in the future. This country doesn’t need that. It needs investment and development. Exactly what did this ‘Slim Shady’ expect the accomplish by suing the government. A quick ride to the airport and a one-way ticket to the destination of his choice. Seems like he already had too many pots on the fire and nothing was cooking.
The question is not that The Bahamas is able to meet its financial obligations, but t the concern should be, ‘who owns the wealth (economy) of The Bahamas?’ Whilst consecutive Bahamian governments are being instigated to pile up more and more taxes on Bahamians, foreigners still come and get exemptions from these taxes. So when one compares Bahamian ownership present vs past or Bahamian ownership vs foreign ownership or Bahamian economic participation vs foreign economic participation, these ratios are concerning. The carpet is being pulled from under the feet of Bahamians, even as their economy appears booming.
Why was the bailout of the US banking system necessary in 2008? Because they were multiple clones of Paul McSweeny who stole multiple Buildings of what went misappropriated or unaccounted for under his watch. So Peter ain’t no better than Paul or Enron.
