It is not only the auto dealerships that are suffering because of the changes in the system where consumers now have access to international markets and can import their own goods, cars included. Alibaba, the Chinese rival to Ebay and Amazon. Com has reported that their sales soared by 55% last quarter and the company now enjoys a record annual sales to $5.14 billion. This is more than the sales of Amazon and Ebay combined. And this is despite the local China economy is in a slump. In fact on line shopping is expected to grow even more as the delivery system for smaller packages is enhanced by the use of drones and smart phones become even smarter. While the local auto dealerships may not have to re-invent the wheel, they, along with other retailers will have to find a way to compete with the on line shopping and may have to come up with incentives to capture the local customers. One benefit to persons who import cars is they only have to pay for the vehicle up front. Then they have up to 12 weeks to come up with the freight and duty when their vehicle arrives in the Bahamas. And even Bahamas Customs is streamlining the customs/vat/duty process where it is user friendly and persons can have their vehicles and other imports cleared within a matter of hours after they arrive in the Bahamas. The banks are now converting all their bank cards to either credit or debit cards and so even the payment process is easier, both for the car purchase and the payment of freight and duty.

For the sake of clarity it was not a night stick that the officer used to attempt to separate the fighting students. It was his cane and as you may know, this cane is his symbol of authority. The young man who attempted to take the cane from the officer was ways out of order. He should be identified and disciplined if only by the school. Students should be taught to respect authority and stay neutral if not assist them. The saddest part is that despite how the fight intensified to the point of the two girls falling on the ground and rolling over in the dirt, like two stray cats, no one except the police attempted to stop them. No one came to his assistance and the young man who attempted to disarm him of his cane should be dealt with.

Minnis is correct and everyone should be concerned about the spike in crime. But the fact is the increase started before the hurricane, which resulted in a young man being gunned down and killed while the country was just about locked down for the storm. It appears that there is some tic for tac going on with gangs who are striking back when one of their gang bangers gets killed. Of more concern is the young females that have also been killed in October, a teen age girl being 'head shot."apparently by someone known to her. Maybe more information needs to be given on how many of these murders (during October) were solved by the police and/or if they are aware of the motives for any of them and itf they seem to be isolated killings or somewhat related. reports are that the police has a suspect in the latest murder that occurred less than 24 hours ago.

Seems that Izmirilians legal team has fallen asleep or they are waiting to strategically play their trump card (no pun intended). But the developments over the past few months and even weeks confirms that Zarkis being kicked out of Bah Mar was no accident. It was an evilly devised and well orchestrated plan. Can you name one foreign direct investment project in which the government was so intimately involved? Christie is in bed with the Chinese and the more he denies it, the more the truth manifests itself.

Thanks BTC! For enslaving Bahamian people for five years or more. Where is Marlon Johnson to get his 'Chief of Uncle Tom' award?

John says...

BTC is the company to watch over the next few months to two years. This company squandered millions of dollars and partied to the four corners of the world while they ripped of hundreds of Bahamian merchants who sold their Top Up and phone cards. While BTC was around the world partying and celebrating with every event and everyone from Olympics to papa George funeral they were only paying their Top Up and Phone Card vendors 5cents on a dollar to sell their products. Imagine that! You could only pay a hard working striving Bahamian 5 cents to sell your products but you partying all day and every day and all night too. So what has changed? Well competition coming to the cellular phone market and all (did I say ALL) BTC vendors are signing up with the new company. Many say they prayed for this day and couldn't wait for it to come. Do BTC employees got the DT's now. Hangover from partying too much and guilty as sin for not adequately compensating their long suffering but loyal customers. Many who had to go out of business. To sum it up properly , "BTC done did it again!"

Well Americans feel the same way and spiritually speaking all else I will say is 'don't be caught with no oil in your lamp." what if they bring another referendum and you are not registered?Go register!

> Blo25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Pindling use to say something like, "if they give you fridge, take it. if they give you stove take it. And if they give you ham and turkey, take them too. And you still don't have to vote for them." In fact you still can not vote, if that is what you want.

John says...

Whether you intend to vote or not, it is important to register. At least you will be prepared for any eventualities that may arise during and after the elections. A voters card is one of the few things you can still get free in this country today and, despite the current political climate, it is one of the most powerful documents you could ever own. In all your frustrations remember not voting is also a vote, but not registering to vote is giving up the most powerful God given right you have in this country. If you are not registered the politicians will not even have to waste time and energy during their campaigns to try to win your vote. They have already struck you off as a person who does not count, a non entity: you have no voting franchise. Go register, if only for the hell of it! And let them try figure you out.
