brave davis is only grandstanding! Once the US Department if Justice reclassifies marijuana afrim a class A dangerous drug to a less dangerous and harmful drug like aspirin and cough syrup, most of the legislation tge Brave Davis is attempting to pass, especially for the growing and handling of marijuana, and tge hefty fines for tge violations of those regulations will become null and void. Marijuana, by law ‘in ordinary quantities’ will no longer be a contraband and whilst but may still be a controlled substance, the penalty for having regular amounts in one’s possession will not warrant jail time. The issue Tge Bahamas will have to deal with, regardless if whatever laws are in the books is the explosive marijuana culture that has taken the country by storm. Especially since the pandemic. Young people seem to be self medicating on a combination of marijuana and alcohol and this seems to be driving a lot of violent crime in the country. In other jurisdictions where marijuana was made legal or, at least decrimilize led, crime ( violent crimes) decreased. So yes tgere should be a grave concern for marijuana use among minors as it is known to inhibit learning abilities and memory. And on the other end, most people tend to wean themselves off recreational marijuana in their early 39’s. Either when they get married and start a family or get job with more responsibilities or one that require them to look the part and not like a weedhead

Your logic evades me: the premis of policing is ‘to protect and to serve.’ They go hand in hand and police are not only trained to protect themselves bu or others trusted in their custody but to teach society as a whole how to protect themselves and to not become victims ( of crime) or murder

The man found with 13 weapons, including two assault rifles and ammunition and drugs pled guilty and got a five year sentence. His sixty year old mother, who lives with him pled ‘not guilty.’

And what is the real punishment for murder in this country? A killer is caught, gets charged, goes to prison to await trial. He eventually ( soon) gets bail and is either himself murdered Or commits additional murders. There has to be some definitive punishment for cold blooded murder and even more severe for these ambush and assassination type killings

The concern should not be just that Murders are up, but the number of teens ( 15 y/o ‘s who are being both killers and killed. This has to be a disturbing trend. And the number of firearms m, including assault weapons, that are being busted. Either being attempted to be smuggled into the country or being sold on the streets. What is the appropriate punishment for a person caught with thirteen weapons including two assault weapons?
.
And yes , many like to attack the police. But with the recovery of so many weapons off the streets and tge various videos with young men being ambushed and murdered:assassinated in brought daylight and on busy thoroughfares. The public can appreciate more the hard work if police officers and the danger of the job. For example one often hears ‘you think they had to bring all them vehicles or all dem officers had to come to make one lil arrest?’ Well in this day and time, better safe than sorry. The police don’t know what they are up against when they respond to a call. And best they respond in force.

Well Wayne Munroe’s stance is ‘ a police should not have to hesitate to think ‘what will happen to me if I shout this ( criminal)? Will I have to face a coroner’s court and possibly be found guilty of manslaughter?’ That is true in the general scheme of things and police should be able to execute their duties unhindered. But unfortunately, some of the coroner’s bfases have shown that not all police officers were acting in good faith or in the execution of their duties when they executed a police-involved shooting. There have been cases where it was clearly exposed that police officers tampered with evidence, planted evidence and even removed and repositioned the body of shot victims. So no I don’t agree with Wayne Munroe that police officers should be given Carte Blanche to shoot at will. The fact that there has been only one police involved shooting some five months into 2024 compared to a high of sixteen in a single year shows the coroner’s court is effective. And police officers must be accountable and that a good number of police shootings were outside the scope of ‘police officers doing their job.’

Exactly! It is about the falsification of records. Not about hotel sex, which is not illegal. But the intricacies of tge event was brought in and let in as a ‘name and shame’ tactic

John says...

Obviously the jury wasn’t buying the police story and they let their emotions be known. So tge ly brung in the story with the alleged attempted rape and kidnapping to try win the jury back. Not unlike in the Trump trial when the court heard all the sordid details of an apparent hotel sexcapade with Trump and a porn star who could remember every detail from 16 years ago. And she sells sex for a living.

According to YS President Biden, marijuana should never been made illegal and never classified as a ‘Class A’ dangerous drug. So yes it is a Black market. A market intentionally designed to exploit and criminalize and jail Black people. Black folk were using marijuana for religious purposes, for medical purposes and as s sedative before it was made illegal. The US collapsed tge entire a Jamaican economy and devalued its dollar because it refused to sign on to the US drug extradition treaty. Now the US is probably one of the largest growers of marijuana with it being legal in only half of its states.

An easy fix to this: hint posession of small amounts of Marijuana will be decrimilize in The BaHAMAS. Joe Biden says once Marijuana is reclassified, ‘no one will go to jail for possessing or smoking regular amounts of marijuana.’ This means the reclassification by the DOJ will make a lot of tge laws this late Bahamian Government is trying to leglislate obsolete. Once marijuana becomes fully legal in the US it will be likewise here. On what grounds can this government claim it a dangerous substance if US says No, not so!’ Unless they want to continue to discriminate against the Rastafarian and the Black people in general
