Boy this (PLP) government have so much loose and losing ends to tie up before election in 12 short months. This waste and fire issue, PowerSecure and it being sold after signing a contract, the referendum what will be defeated, the NHI that has hit a stonewall, the fires in Crooked Island, wulff road and so many other major roads that need major work, BAH mar not opening anytime soon, Crime and especially murder, The BAMSI affair with the burnt out and unreplaced dorm, BoBo and Toogie, Nygard and Bacon, Neglected Family islands, especially those that was hit by Joiquin, 30,000 unemployed Bahamians with thousands more leaving school in a few weeks, Fourth Six Thousand Bahamians living in poverty, No Mortgage Relief, Allegations of Corruption in government, ...pleas feel free to add to the list. BUT the numbers boys are happy as well as gambelers, Carnival is somewhat in disarray, Defence Force got New boats with no where to dock them, Bahamasair planes are on the way, some Clico insured got relief, East Street got paved VAt collects over $500 million, minimum wage goes up but not as much as the cost of living, BEC bills come down
Many people thought the fires were out until they saw residents of the island on facebook begging for help. Well according to V. Alfred gray, "help and fire engines are on the way.' In the main time still pray for more rain and less winds.
YES I voting ***NO!!!***The simple reason being the intent of these bills is still unclear. If I vote "yes" I may never get to undo what I did. If I vote "***NO***", then they can always bring another referendum.
In a single school district in South Florida, ***ninety*** shootings of students have been recorded, seventeen of whom have died. Just two weeks ago a student was ambushed while he was walking home with his brother and shot ten times. He died on the sport. He was seventeen and just last week there students of the same school he attended, one 15 y/o and two 16 y/o were arrested and charged with the murder. They claim that they are members of "The Clover Leaf" gang and that was the reason behind the shooting. They will be tried as adults and now that has the families outraged and at odds with police. At one of Hilary Clinton's rallies her husband, Bill Clinton, got in an exchange with a, "Black Lives Matter" group of protesters. They were protesting against the harsh sentences given to Black persons who commit crime compared to their White counterparts. Bill Clinton response was, "You (Black Lives Matter), want to protect the same people who are giving 13 and 14 year old kids crack cocaine and a gun and sending them to kill other black teens." So what is the relevance of that to the Bahamas? The drug problem and the gang problem and the guns have spilled over into the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. America is the most advanced country in the western world and there are some districts its police cannot go. This is not a small problem, this crime and the violence and the murder that comes with it. This country has lost nearly one thousand persons to murder in a decade and more than half that number are facing jail time for murder. Most of them are young men in the most productive stage of their lives. If you google "most dangerous places to visit in the Caribbean", The Bahamas is among the first to pop up. And while most persons visiting this country are relatively safe, do you know how many millions of dollars this country may be losing annually because of how it is branded? Do you know it is easier to sue a pharmaceutical company than it is to sue the manufacturer of a weapon that was sold illegally and used in a crime?
The fact is that the Government of the Bahamas should never have embarked on a "Vote Yes" campaign. They should have initiated a task force to educate and inform Bahamians about the bills and the effect they will have on them. The decision to vote 'yes" or to vote 'no" should have been left to individuals and the government should have remained neutral. If other private groups, like church ministers, Save the Bahamas and Rodney Moncur and others want to go on campaigns to persuade citizens to vote one way or the other, then that is their rights but it is not the government's call to tell people how to vote. The reason I will not support these bills is because the same people who brought the referendum in 2002 are now opposing it and the people who are bringing the bills now opposed them in 2002. This signals that these bills are foreign and has nothing to do with the rights of Bahamians or Bahamian women in particular. See what happened in Trinidad.
I would be anxious to know what exactly is in the Carnival's $7 million budget. There has been little advertising, and the carnival bands claim they got no seed money this year. Are they buying costumes for friends and family again, flying them (and lovers) to Freeport, and having private parties at your expense?. Im sure you also would like to know
The best crime plan as to follow the 'new' commandment that Jesus Christ gave us when he left this earth. That is for (Bahamians) to ***love one another***,'just as Christ loved the church. Bahamians have been under attack from all forces and from all sides and have turned against each other. The time is now to stand against that divide and conquer strategy and become our brother's keeper once again. . "Romans 13:10 Chapter 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law"
weather may have played a part, but the carnival was DOA (dead on arrival). There was hardly any promotion internationally (which was suppose to be the big inflow of money, there was confusion over the headliner (at one point there was not to be any) and the carnival bands are at odds with the organizers. One would expect more harmony and better organization in this the second year of the event. And yes, more tourist participation.
