Speaking about discrimination, wasn't it Hon. A.D. Hanna who once accused the police of discriminating against him? When police were summoned to remove him and Sir Milo Butler from the House Of Assemble after a rowdy session six police came for Sir Milo, but only two came for A.D. Hanna. So Mr. Hanna protested because he felt he was being discriminated against.

When the Rubis oil spill poisoned and contaminated the well water of hundreds of Bahamians, it was a black Bahamian government accused of covering up to the detriment of hundreds of other black Bahamians. When a handful of white government decided to distribute lead contaminated water to over 100,000 black Americans children, that was a conscious decision. When the US decides to put out alerts and prevent its citizens from traveling to Bahhamas, every single Bahamian is affected. When Bah Mar went bankrupt and failed to open most of the Bahamians who lost their jobs and were sent home were black but the contractors who were not paid were black and white. Those who had invested in Bah Mar's stores and restaurants were multi hued. When Donald Trump lashes out against certain races and ethnicities and threatens a policy of exclusion, should he become president of the US, these policies will affect the entire Bahamas, not just backs or not just white. When the foreign poachers come in and steal the lobst and fish, it does not only affect the fishermen in Spanish Wells but also in Androstenedione and in Exuma. The point is The Bahamas is too small and has become to socially and economically entwined to promote racism or separatism. It is even difficult to divide the country purely along political lines, because at the end of the day you will find some FNM in bed with a PLP and some PLP sleeping with the DNA
Bahamians should not depend on PowerSecure to bring them relief from high energy bills and unreliable service. When the Water Corporation was pumping dirty, rusty water or just faucets belching air and now pressure, Bahamians came off the system and relied on their own wells and bottled water. Now manny, many years later (since Roker Pure) as it was called. WSC has gotten rid of most of its rusty pipes, gotten some water pressure in its pipes, learned how to treat the water and keep it reasonably safe. It now has the task of rebranding itself and marketing and selling its product to consumers who abandoned it many generations ago. In one West African country the is off more often than it is on. In fact persons have adapted their lives to living without electricity. So now the government has embarked on a project to ensure that each household is outfitted with enough solar power to run at least one light and a refrigerator. This project is designed not only to help individual consumers, but to help take the load of the power grid when it is up and running. It will also help reduce fuel costs that had the power company challenged, as well as pollution from the burning of fuel. Each Bahamian household should follow this example by seeking solar to power their refrigerators and at least two lights in their homes. One inside and one outside. In fact they should go even further and invest in a solar water heater, as heaters are one of the largest consumers of electricity. Once PowerSecure or BEC or Freeport Power see that consumers are no longer willing to pay exorbitant fees for power or depend on unreliable service, they will get their act together
Maybe they are in denial but all the indicators (slow grow, no growth or negative growth in major economies, jitters and/or massive sell off on the stock markets, investors seeking hedge funds and less risky investments or choosing to hold cash, reduced consumer confidence and spending and even negative interest rates in Japan, not to mention falling oil prices) that the world is headed for another major recession. The major concern and most dangerous thing for the Bahamas is that little or nothing was done to recover and/or repair the damage from the previous downturn. The national debt has skyrocketed, unemployment remains unreasonably high, if not at record levels, there was little or no mortgage relief and the cost of living is unbearably high. Taxes continue to be piled on and businesses are continually failing and shutting down and causing further unemployment. So imagine going into a recession under those extremely adverse conditions. You cannot continue to increase taxes because you will sink the few businesses that are profitable. You cannot borrow because the country is up to its eyebrows in debt. Despite all the song and dance little of substance has been done to reduce the country's food import bill and the few initiatives the government has taken to genrate additional revenue like carnival and Bimini are not recession resistant. Bah Mar can be taken off the radar, at least for now and if it is not finished and opened before the recession hits it may be another 3 or 4 years before an investor decides to take the risk. So unless government has some really aggressive and effective plans to reduce costs and debt and increase revenue in the short term, the Bahamas will be caught with its pants down.
Maybe you are D average but there are hundreds of high level management, government, medical, legal religious and civic posts around the world. Stop eating "D" og food
OK so explain this to me. With the exception of about 5 or 6 people the management of BEC will remain the same. And for this the Bahamian consumer will be paying up to $5 million a year! Why didn't they bring in these folks as consultants, keep the Bahamian management team in place, train them, give the consultants a performance bonus and send them home when BEC is turned around. What did the country benefit from the sale of BTC? It took the same Bahamian who was fired when BTC was sold to bring BTC to the level where it is now. The foreign CEO was fired after a few years of fumbling. Why are we still buying the ,uncle tom, story that foreign is better?
What contingency plan does the committee have for the Zika virus? There are reports that the virus has been spread, not only sexually, but even from kissing (from family members getting each other so it was not a sexual kiss) Should costumes be modified to be less skimpy. Will there be widespread spraying of the carnival areas before and during the event. Or hopefully the Zika will disappear like the Ebola. At least the Summer Olympics Committee does not expect so. They are still up in arms about how to handle the summer games.
