This man has to be the most chronic and fanatical liar in the history of Bahamaian politics. Everyone knows the demise of not only South Eleuthera, but the entire island of Eleuthera came under the PLP government under the leadership of L O Pindling. They bought out the Hatchet Bay farms that used to supply the entire country with milk, eggs and icecream and closed it down. and they forced many of the investors and second home owners on Eleuthera,South Eleuthera especially,to leave the country. Those were the days when Pindling and the PLP would plant lamp poles and run miles and miles of electrical wire promising the people electricity. Then when they didn't get the votes they would refuse to connect the supply. They did the same thing with water pipes and telephone lines. This was done not just in Eleuthera but a number of Family Islands It was Hubert Ingraham who eventually electrified the family islands. Pindling use to send heavy equipment to some islands making the people believe the roads were going to be fixed just before elections. But as soon as the votes were in the equipment would be packed up and brought back to Nassau. Franky Wilson cannot rewrite history with his lies. Everyone in South Eleuthera knows about Pindling and the PLP curse on that island. Eleuthera people teach their children history. Even when Perry Christie was prime minister the last time he did nothing for South Eleuthera. And Franky Wilson knows that his welcome to that island is not a warm ones do his shameless lies does not make him any more welcome.
Word from the Berry Islands is that the two men who were spotted yesterday were fishermen from Freeport who were also adrift in high seas. They have since been rescued.
The Turks and Cacios islands have a $72 million budget surplus this year. It's a matter of fiscal management. This country must night the bullet somewhere and pay down the national debt. The more it increases the more tax dollars will have to go to service it. Some say the world may see another recession before it climbs out of this one. You know what they say will happen to the U.S. Dollar. But can you imagine what will happen to this country if the economy falls and we have this type debt to service?
I'll pretend to agree with you agreeing with me and venture to say if it is about witnesses remember the young man who was accused, charged, convicted and sentenced in a matter of hours faced a similar situation. It was the police word against his. In fact he claims that at his (yes his) trial, he was not allowed to speak. So yes Newbold may have felt threatened but not from Gray. Conscience is a witch!
While you go to great pains to discredit my post you, make outrageous and crazy suppositions and even to attempt to introduce a hostile scenario where Newbold's life was threatened, by a gun. This is a matter of an employer talking to an employee over the phone. To what extent would you go beyond this to pervert justice? 's
Your example of someone pointing a gun is so far off base it changes the whole scenario because, as you acknowledge, the gun now becomes the threat and not the conversation. Remember that the conversation took place via telephone so there was no physical threat in the least so it is quite disingenuous of you even to suggest the presence of a gun. Then remember in Newbold's own words he says he is one that is not easily frightened, and he did not know what it was that caused him to release the boy
The reason there was so much compliance to VAT from the business community is the VAT team (task force), headed by Mr. John Rolle, won the confidence of these people. For the first time in history of government they did not push individuals into a small poorly lit room, make them sit in a chair what look like if fall off the Ark, force them to fill out forms and tell them how much to pay. Early in the game John Rolle and his team realized that he was dealin with, for the most part, a group of patriotic, mostly honest and cooperative, hard working and professional people who had the country's welfare and future at heart. And so John Rolle's team worked with them on that same level taking them to lunch and allowing input from these business persons. Input that was acted on and feedback was given and adjustments made. John Rolle, because of his sincerity and the hard work of his team won the confidence of the business community. Now he must go to his boss, Mike Halkitas, and to the Prime Minister and tell them in no uncertain terms, that VAT money must be used for the purpose for which it was intended. Not only should it be used only for that purpose but it must be properly accounted for and under a light of transparency. Failing that the level of confidence in the business sector will erode and so will the level of compliance. Many of these persons have gone about collecting the governments money when their own businesses are experiencing cash flow problems and lack of profitability.
For a threat to stand under criminal law one has to prove intent and benefit. Was it Grays intention to threaten the administrator and what gain/ benefit did he obtain from doing so?
We have heard from Gray and Newbold told his side. (He says he is not a fearful man but he doesn't know what caused him to obey Gray, meaning there was no direct threat). Now maybe it's time to hear from the person who was charged and released and the arresting officer vis a vis the commissioner. That way a complete picture of what transpired can be seen including the details of what injuries the boy suffered and how he got them.
Then maybe you are suggesting that Newbold should be charged along with Gray? Clearly he has produced no statement that shows he was threatened by Gray into releasing the convict. Not flawed logic. Pure facts clear and simple. You cannot prosecute on speculation.
