Im kinda missing your point, every bit of it. We are talking about a situation of leaking oil that some says started back in 1999. This is 2015. If anyone was testing their well even once a year they would have detected it was contaminated with fuel at least 5 years before the clean up and even as much as 10 years ago. So your suggestion that they be testing the soil is moot. And was there any studies done to determine that there is a higher incidence of cancer in the affected area than in the general population of New Providence? Furthermore yes the gas station leak is a serious situation and the persons affected should be compensated. But we have an even more deadly situation in this country, that is probably leading to more cancer and more deaths. How many times have you walked into homes and you could smell the propane gas, even before you enter the door? And because of the crime element because many homes are air conditioned they are air tight. Persons sleep night after night breathing high concentrates of propane gas. And no one can tell me this is healthy and Ican guarantee that if studies are done this (propane) can be linked to cancer. Especially those stoves where the pilot light is on 24/7 in a house that has no ventilation.
Kellys was closed for most of today as they had power issues. Getting a haircut was a challenge because the power was going off so frequently, many barbers did not want to start cutting your hair and the power goes off in the middle of it Seems like many people choose the food court in the mall to escape the sizzling heat and find something to eat as many people choose not to cook when current keeps going off
The power went off from around 3 pm yesterday. That's after being off from noon on Saturday until 5:30 Sunday morning. So we went out and came back around to find three of the four goldfish floating...dead. These fish are four and five years old and value between $300 and $500 each. Explaining it to children aint easy. But we couldn't help but wonder how the hospitals and other care facilities make it when power cuts are so frequent and so long. old folk homes. Patients on dialysis machines, respirators, having surgery, giving childbirth and power going off and on...more off than on..and this is just April. Temperature is already in the 90's and we have at least 5 more months of the summer temperatures ahead of us.
This problem like BEC. Crime and the eternally burning dump fire has crossed party lines for three or four consecutive governments. Ain't no use pointing fingers now
Persons who use private wells have always been urged to have their wells tested regularly. And advised to treat their wells. At least if they were testing they would have gotten an earlier warning about the fuel contamination and would have been less exposed to it.
Don't panic. Vat returns due. And no power,, no internet to file and when you start the process the power goes off again or you get kicked off the vat server. Welcome to Bahamas 2015. And beyond
Next month (MAY) will mark 3 years that the PLP government has been in power. Since they were elected some 350 persons have been murdered in this country. And if things remain the same, at least another 250 Bahamians will not be around in 2017 to vote come Election Day because they too, would have been murdered, most of them in cold blood. Many of them in the prime of their lives. Claimed by death most likely from assassins bullets (plural)even before they experienced life. What does this say about our country and our people? What does this say about a government whose campaign promise was to stop the murder and the mayhem in this land. "If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, then shall I hear from heaven and heal their land." After carnival how about a week of prayer and worship...in sincerity
Maybe it's time to elect Brent Symnonette for prime minister just for the hell of it and to see if it will make a difference. But just from watching what is going on with Hillary Clinton campaign it won't. Those in opposition want to have just as much say and just as much power as them set in government. They just don't want the responsibility at least some.
