The problem with illegal Haitians, especially, is this country only crack down on them when things are bad. When the economy is good, they come here, settle down and start families. The children attend schools, sit national exams and they family receive health care. Then they are suddenly uprooted and forced to leave the island. Imagine the cultural shock for the many children who go to Haiti for the first time. Some may not be able to speak Creole so they grow up in anger despising everything around them. In the main time there are the 'invisible' illegal immigrants such as the Chinese and Filipinos who live and work at the same address and hardly ever interact with the community. Many Chinese have their people living above their businesses and one would wonder how often immigration make 'raids ' on these places and request persons to produce documents. another form of illegal immigration is the professional, technician, consultant, consultant who comes in on a tourist visa and checks into the upscale properties. They conduct most of their work from a hotel room or private office and since they are only seen in social settings, they are presumed to be legitimate tourists. They usually leave when their work is done taking all of their hefty cheques or consultancy fees with them. Even some quasi government corporations are known to engage in this practice, simply to avoid the red tape of immigration.

It is good to see that Bah Mar has stationed a "crossing guard" at the padestrain crossing near the entrance by Melia during rush hour. This has improved the traffic flow in that area to the relief of motorists heading in both direcxtions during the morning rush.

a need for Local investigation? The 74 year old deputy sheriff who killed a suspect who was running away from an undercover sting operation to purchase illegal guns had purchased tickets for a trip to the Bahamas for himself and the sheriff who allowed him to carry a 357 magnum gun. The duputy shot the suspect to death but claims he thought he was using his taser and not the 357. The deputy was allowed to carry the weapon and act as a police officer because of his friendship with the sheriff and the various donations he made to his precinct. Is there any relationship between illegal guns and this duos trip to this country? How many times have they been here before? Begs further investigation

While BTC continues to squander millions each year sponsoring every Bahamian event. It's vendors continue to struggle to stay in business and many have not made a profit since BTC cut it's margins on Top Up from 25% to 9%. Many have given up selling phone cards and Top Up but others continue to sell at a loss just because there is such great demand for the product. Others hold on with the hope that with the introduction of competition BTC will be forced to fix their margins. The irony of it all is that while the company claims it cannot afford to adequately compensate persons for selling their products look around and see how many million$ they continue to squander.

Do they still pay $20.00 to turn-in a crazy person at Sandilands? (No I wasn't referring to the minister). But there are several things to consider: we know that when Bahamians get sick and tired of someone who is illegal they call immigration on them. They will even call immigration on someone they know is Bahamian just to embarrass and inconvenience them. Secondly we know programs such as "cash for guns",don't work because persons use the opportunity to get rid of guns they don't want to get ready cash. Third immigration figures should confirm that the number of illegals have been significantly reduced. The big yellow bus seems to be empty these days. The biggest problem seems to be that persons continue to be coming from and returning from Haiti. Not only to the Bahamas but to Brazil, Mexico and to a point in Santo Domingo to a point where they are being violently greeted and even executed there. Maybe these countries need to get together and come up with s plan to ease the economic hardship in Haiti and help them get world economic assistance

Many (Bahamian) people still don't understand the goal and marketing target of Junksnoo Carnival. While the crowds in Freeport on the weekend were definitely impressive and a success for the launching of J carnival it is not the target crowd. For Carnival to be a true success you will have to see two or three or four of every person in the crowd being foreign tourists. The airlines coming from abroad will have to be booked solid to the point of putting on additional flights and the same with hotels and living accommodations so that the Ministry of Tourism will have to put out ads for persons with suitable housing and willing to rent to contact them. The crowds will number in the tens of thousands rather than just thousands. Food and other vendors will sell double or even triple what they sold on this weekend and there will be many more vendors. That is the goal of carnival and that is why it will take a number of years to get there and that is why proper (international) marketing and (maybe) a well known headliner (draw) is important. While a carnival attended by mostly Bahamians does create economic activity and generate some wealth, it brings no new money to the country. That is the intention of J Carnival: to draw the international crowd.

The bible explains our current crime crisis : "the fathers have eaten sour grapes", (drug dealing and materialism and break down of family values in the 1980s and 1990's). "And put their children's teeth on edge." (Murder and violence and drug turft wars and gang activity we face today.). We must restore our values and bring an end to the production of "fatherless fathers". Who (for lack of affection and a crisis of identity) will continue to wreak havoc on society.
