I must say there have been marked improvement in cell service. Dropped calls especially. So I guess the firing of Geoff Houston and some of his management team was justified. Then there was also the issue of millions of dollars in phone cards missing that forced others to resign.
how can you trust this government with more taxpayer money when we are paying the same fuel surcharge on electricity bills that we paid when OIL was at $150.00? The price of oil has dropped by fifty percent! Not only that but the fuel surcharge is only suppose t kick in when oil prices exceed $77.00 a barrel. Since oil is now at $77.00 the fuel surcharge on your light bill should be ZERO!!. Check your bill and see how much difference that is from what you are now paying. BEC is collecting three times what is should be collecting from its consumers but yet the chairman claims the company is broke and cannot buy fuel...something is as wrong as BoB with this picture...but they remain silent.
Many business owners are panicking and walking to the slaughter and registering for VAT because John Rolle was threatening them even before the deadline to register expired. This government and its team of VAT(icans) does not seem to realize that most businesses that have a turnover of $100,000 to $150,000 are not making a profit and only because the owner/owners can employ themselves and pay themselves a small salary are they still in existence. The few that do see a profit of less than $10,000 a year are now being bullied by this VAT team to use these scarce resources to employ a formal accounting system and make their businesses VAT compliant by January 1, 2014. And while they are compelled to carry out the burdensome task of VAT reporting and collecting VAT revenues or face stiff penalties, little or nothing has been done to ensure that the revenues collected and handed to the government is not frittered away or squandered.
Shareholders, at this point, will not want to bring a lawsuit that will create more expenses for BoB, cast its future into more doubt and uncertainty, and make the possibility of minority shareholders recovering any, less all of their investments less likely. The quicker the bank returns to profitability, the sooner those who choose to do so can dispense of their stocks and put this financial tragedy behind them. To tie the bank up in a lawsuit just to get information at this time is unwise.

Why is there so much deafening silence from the chairman of BEC about the high electricity bills despite the price of OIL falling some $50.00 a barrel? Why are Bahamians still being charged same the fuel surcharge they were being billed when OIL was $120.00? Why is BEC still unable to pay its bills when it is charging the consumers (us) three times what the cost of electricity should be? This been going on since JUNE so they should be able to pay off the fuel bill and buy SIX new generators by December 31...so who tiefin? Ya tink is da Haitians dem in the shanty towns?
I spent most of the weekend trying to figure out why Dr. Myles Munroe called Prime Minister Perry Christie out publically to take the lead in the fight against crime as opposed to calling a private meeting with him. Now we all know. The Bahamas knows and the world knows. Dr. Myles Munroe requested it (prophetically) and now the citizens of the Bahamas must demand it, even in the investigation that is going on now, Take the lead!
