It's not surprising that men in Parliament do not support equal rights for women in The Bahamas. We will continue to treat our women as property, our uneducated as cattle and our children as sex objects. This social crisis ga be long...
First of all, Nicole, I wasn't ready to read about our Bahamaland hobbling along like a functioning alcoholic!! 10 points to you! On a serious note I think your observations are somewhat spot on. What Bahamas will there be and who will be Bahamian are great questions that many do not want to contemplate. To be quite honest is it really worth fighting for? I am a patriot, I love my country but I feel we have needed to do better for some time. We have not prepared the next generation properly. We have not diversified, not made opportunities available to give real ownership to Bahamians. I am ready to fight with those youths. Is there a way to throw out the PLP next week? Oh I forgot...Pindling is the GG... nevermind...
Finally some sense is being made in Nassau... I feel the nation is on a slippery slope and is very close to becoming the land that time and evolution forgot. It is unfortunate that too many people are illiterate and will miss this timely message.
So what that she is gay? That's her business, just like her saying that she is a member of the gay community is her business. People are going to talk about you whether you doing bad or good. I applaud Terneille Burrows for having the guts to speak up when so many choose to be silent. I can't believe that we are still fighting for equal rights before the law in 2014. Forget gay rights. We are talking about human rights because gays are humans too!
Here you are misguided. If Science means anything to you, you may want to do a little research before you showcase your ignorance. I have educated hundreds of young children in my career and I will tell you that you are born gay based on what I've seen. You may not like that, but you better get used to it because it is everywhere and it's probably going to hit you in a way you won't like when you least expect it.
Birdie Strachan, I can't believe that you as a woman will vote no to having equal rights with men in your own country. A woman like you horrifies me. You may have a daughter who leaves The Bahamas to make a life elsewhere in the world. What will you say when your daughter cannot pass on her citizenship to her child? Will you tell her she should not have married that foreign man? Because you leave the country you should cut off all ties with it? What rock are you living under? Do you realise that The Bahamas is becoming one of the worst places to live? It is a third world country. Do you know that countries like Canada, Australia and England are peaceful places to live and pay more than double to their workers compared to The Bahamas? I am trying to understand your logic, The Bahamas may have once been a place to live and thrive, but its far from that now. Not everyone is clamoring for Bahamian citizenship. Did you read the article that told us more than half of our college educated do not return to The Bahamas? I ask you these questions because I am a Bahamian woman and I have left the Bahamas for many reasons but mostly I have left because I cannot live in a place riddled with ignorant people like you. A woman voting against women's rights... the height of ridiculousness.
As a person who loves the Bahamas very much it pains me to read of people saying vote no to Gender equality because that will give gays rights. If you believe in equal rights meaning that men and women should be equal how can you in good conscience vote no to that? Just because we have always done something one way, doesn't make it right and just because you beat your drum the loudest, that doesn't make you right either. I applaud the people who are organising this Pride function because whether you like it or not, gay people have been around since the beginning of humanity and they will continue to be around for the rest of our time in the universe. If you don't like it, close your eyes and continue to walk blindly. But be honest, and if you believe in the Bible so much believe that loving your neighbour as yourself is the key. Leave the hate for the devil.
