I was not attempting to equate Bahamas with UN, simply saying their sentiments are the same. So regardless of intent...the comments are valid and appropriate. The U.S. has been "sticking it" to the Bahamas all along, like they do other third world countries.
Look at what they did to Haiti and some African countries under the guise of aid? Meanwhile, U.S. corporations are the only real beneficiaries? 20 years later...an apology from Clinton for his "ignorance" at the time, free rice and second hand clothing and a prompt return to Haiti should they be caught in U.S. waters.
There is no benefit in pandering to the U.S., it will do as it pleases regardless of advisories.
I'm not focusing on the intent, I could care less. Even the UN issued an advisory because of the recent events. What was their intent?
The advice expressed by the MOFA was nonetheless sound...and considering all of the protesting that went on last night well past midnight, timely as well. I am sure the Bahamian medical student who died in police custody in the U.S., and his family would have appreciated such a warning and knowing how/where to reach out to the Consulate offices for assistance.
But by all means, vent about the intent of the messager and not the substance of message which is in no way inflammatory or offensive.
I am all for equal rights...men, women, or whomever should be allowed to enter into marital contracts with whomever they chose and enjoy the same civil liberties that everyone else has.
What they seem to want is to become a protected class. However, being transgender is a choice regardless if the person feels it's their 'truth' or not. Only hermaphrodites and similar conditions are scientifically proven, but most transgenders are not that. Therefore, if a 6'+ man decides to wear a skirt, heels, make-up and expect to land a secretarial type job...he is delusional.
Society should not be forced to play along with anyone's delusions. I personally would not hire him for the same reason I would not hire a scantily clad woman with her breasts exposed, visible tattoos, etc. because I'm running a business, not a side show.
The point is who exactly will be listening to this has been at this joke parade? Wyclef Jean has no star power or credibility, not to mention he is a hypocrite and a fraud. What he did to Haitians is far worse than anything you're hoping he would expose against Bahamians. The every day atrocities of Haitians against other Haitians in Haiti is also far worse.
@lkalikl - Wyclef Jean is an opportunist. He had zero concern in stealing from his own people, after the earthquake with his fake charity. He is in no position to talk about anyone mistreating Haitians.
The government should not be wasting money on yet another Haitian opportunist.
Fred Mitchell could have been more sensitive toward this woman for sure...but Gibson is the real disgrace here. I'm sure the mother discussed her son's situation with Gibson prior his demise. But Gibson said nothing publicly, while regularly using his column to bring attention to all other alleged human rights infringements of foreigners. Why not his friend? He seems more concerned with scoring points against Mitchell...which really makes him no better, or any less disrespectful toward his friends mother.
All it is is a "row"? I guess they already know nothing will come of it. Even the outspoken QC is treading lightly. Seems they all have something to lose...what a shame!
Chucky, I believe you are the one full of CRAP. You are making up "facts" to support your lies. I see no such press release but I was able to confirm what I said. You can too, if you chose to use your brain rather than being led by misinformation and leading headlines...and your own lies.
@ Chucky, please post your source because I don't believe you. I was able to pull up this man's arrest record on federal prison inmate search. Also, a 2008 article by the Florida Sun sentinel also confirms his sentence for human smuggling of 19 persons from the Bahamas and not adhering to Federal officers command to stop his vessel. They had to shoot at it in order for this brazen criminal to stop his trek.

Very appropriate...I hope young Bahamians travelling to the U.S. take this advisory seriously.
