I agree, It is a publicity stunt. The incarceration of these was not a personal act...it will go nowhere.
Those criminals, one of whom spent five years in Federal prison in the U.S. for human trafficking from Bahamas were placed where they belonged until they could be deported. Just DUI? Yeah right.
In addition to contacting the US Embassy, their US public arrest records are online for all to see. The only people being misled are the ones who believe these men legally entered the US and are now engaged in legal employment.
Georges has shown that he is not someone who is capable of original thought. He tries his very best to recite what's been quoted to him and the justifications why, and falls short. Provisions in these proposals would clearly benefit persons with one Haitian parent more than any other group of foreign nationals in the Bahamas. His desire to withhold the rights of more than half of the population unless his selfish demands are met, amounts to extortion...this speaks volumes about his character.
I hope the next updates include a personal visit and apology from the minister of national security and representatives of the rbpf, reprimand for the officer involved (rather uninvolved)...followed by theIr sincere promise to prioritize the apprehension of this psychopath. Anything less in inexcusable.
You are wrong again, which happens when you speak from emotion and not facts. They can be detained for as long as it takes to deport them. And the immigration board absolutely has the legal authority to decide their fate. Furthermore, there was due cause. The courts do not always get it right, that is clear, and they certainly bungled this one.
The only reason the Bahamas would become a third world hell hole is due to the simple minds such as yourself that can only think in terms of petty party politics, not detention practices. First world countries such as the U.S. hold persons deemed national security risks indefinitely, as do other countries. Please do some research before you type another ignorant, emotional, post.
How do you know that? Is there no competent lawyer within the opposition? Why would they not point out that "little" detail of constitutionality? If not, they need to be replaced with individuals who have the capacity, knowledge and desire to point out possible infringements. This is one of the reasons why people need to stop voting along party lines.
