I am not denying xenophobia exists but in most cases it's abused by people like you with that victim mentality. And it clearly doesn't apply here. His Haitian heritage was also discussed on FB, retrieved from another source, prior to election.
He mentioned it. I believed he served as Bahamian ambassador in Haiti because of it. Are accusations of xenophobia and ignorance your only response to logical concerns where Haitians are mentioned? Shows how little you think of Bahamians, so you are no more open minded than those you accuse.
Are you serious? One murder in several years indicates a pattern of unhinged behavior? This unfortunate murder is the result of a justice system that does not rehabilitate criminals. Or equip the out islands with the tools needed to monitor parolees. He should not have been allowed outside of Nassau.
How is discussing one's dual heritage that ends with "I'm fortunate to have passports..." not supposed to arouse speculation? It's great he cleared it up, but he shouldn't play victim. He brought it on himself.
At the very least someone seeking to be a leader in a country should commit to having that passport alone. Why have leaders with allegiances to other countries and the ability to jump ship at any time? Not to mention impact laws that favor their other nationality?
@Deddie typical deflection from the real topic. We are all descended from somewhere else or can claim another nationality. However, no Haitian or other passport holder, dual or otherwise, has been knowingly elected to the Bahamas HOA. As it should be. However, with all of the concessions demanded for Haitians and the constant disregard for the law where Haitians are concerned, it is not far fetched that a Haitian national could be a minister or prime minister of the Bahamas.
Campbell is intelligent and I am sure aware of the context of his response. He was asked about his Haitian heritage and responded accordingly mentioning his two passports. He should now go beyond words to prove that he does not hold a passport of a 2nd nationality. Even Haiti is strict about this - their former first lady was disqualified because of her dual nationality.
How is it that you come to know that most of these thugs "are not Haitian"? We have no idea how many Haitians actually exist in the Bahamas as best efforts to find this out have been thwarted. So for you to be privy to those valuable stats is amazing...please share with the RBPF and other law enforcement agencies.
However, I applaud Minnis' effort to reach out to Dominica. For once we're assisting a foreign nation other than Haiti. And I am sure the benefitting individuals feel appreciative, not entitled, to this aid. Helping neighbors is never a bad thing until they begin to act like its owed to them.
To"regularise" a minor instead of deporting them with the illegal parent means regularising the parents as well. They reaffirmed that the anchor baby trap works! Clearly the illegal immigrants know what some of us refuse to accept...immigration laws are useless. Future illegals already know the Bahamas is theirs for the taking. So why do immigration laws, the department and the defense force even exist?
The government should at least be honest with its citizens regarding its immgiration plans because it seems the floodgates are being opened even wider. At least give the disenfranchised Bahamians a heads up that their fight for resources is about to become tougher. And alert those wishing to return to consider other options. When home is transformed to Haiti there is really no other incentive to live in an overpriced, overcrowded and lawless society.
Having tens of thousands anonymous, illegal immigrants who are untouchable is far more dangerous to national security than not educating a handful of illegal immigrant offspring. Should the Bahamas also establish schools in Haiti to ensure that future illegal immigrants are also educated?
Instead of being one of the critics, someone in his position should be presenting ideas and alternatives that addresses the problem. I personally see nothing wrong with the government using one of its agencies to identify and account for illegals. The do nothing approach does exactly that.
Besides that, the number of uneducated "new" Haitians to Bahamian soil will greatly outnumber those we didn't educate each year. Should the government also take responsibility for educating and assimilating them? Why does the Bahamas have borders, leaders and call itself a country if anything goes?
