Even in the early eighties, Boaters came down laden with dry and canned food, then after mooring for weeks would jet off in their rubber boats diving and shooting anything and everything for the evening ,meal. Their contribution to the economy was liquor and the local bars.

What a laugh when you have Trump cosying up to a communist dictator who started a war, thinks nothing of assassination of native Russians living abroad. If China invades Taiwan will Trump allow them to keep 20 % of conquered land and then cosy up to the leader of China , I guess he won't be bothered then about China's engagement with the Bahamas.

How about the last director of education telling certain practical teachers that they would be rehired when reaching pensionable age. This of course was a blatant lie and they ignored qualified teachers, with their own accommodation, knowledge of the children and with proven exam results. What did they do in their wisdom, either leave that subject such as woodwork without a teacher or hire a Cuban teacher with all the costs involved and absolutely no interest in becoming part of the community.. I absolutely agree that if there is a young qualified Bahamian looking for employment then it is unfair and blatantly wrong to re hire a recently retired person.

Try teaching with the backbiting amongst some staff and amateur principals who rule by dictate rather than consultation with staff. Bad ACR's given on staff as a method used by some principals to cause problems.

What the stupid American voters who voted for Trump did not realise is that tarrifs on goods especially from China will firstly ignite a world wide trade war and secondly raise prices in the USA. There again he will probably do a deal with Putin and Kim, great guys in his eyes.

Bit confused with this article. Firstly, as a church going nation it seems his ;landlord is not applying any compassionate efforts to help but secondly puzzled how the gentleman can afford a rental car. That being said the donor of new accomodation is worthy of praise/.

When Belinda talks about solidarity it never applies to any effort on her part to support out of contract long serving expat teachers being given a teachers pension This is discrimination Mrs Wilson, not solidarity. Upon retirement an expat doing the exactly the same job as my Bahamian colleagues will retire with no teachers pension just a national insurance pension. Mrs Wilson and all Bahamian teachers need to realise that should they decide to teach abroad in the USA or UK they would immediately be entitled to the benefits given to citizens of that country and this word 'solidarity' in the BUT means nothing.. The 15% gratuity for expats is in lieu of pension during the contract period ceases as soon as they start on month to month terms. In essence if an expat works for a further 30 years after his last contract , he is doing the same work but for less financial benefit of his Bahamian colleagues. It seems that solidarity only extends to paying the same dues as my Bahamian colleagues. Mrs Wilson, talk is cheap.
