Tech ed in the Bahamas is a joke at every level. As a teacher of Auto Mechanics in a high school I did not receive one item of equipment in 15 years despite entering substantial students for BGCSE. Furthermore I was replaced by a Cuban teacher to teach auto who had never taught this subject beforw.

Typical rhetoric " blame the foreigners when the Government has no foresight and always reacts after the fact. Take so called " duty free" liquor shopping. Who is kidding who. Liquor and beer is much cheaper in the USA even after tax. Can you imagine almost $60 for a case of Heineken and home produced Kalik cheaper in the states.

The truth.
1. Fire the Minister of education.
2. Fire the Director of education. He is a liar.
3. Start teaching basic arithmetic and english at primary school. For Gods sake teach them English before Spanish.
4. Get rid of these Cuban teachers. They may be cheaper but the kids cannot understand them.\
6.Stop following every educational American trend.
7. Don't bullshit about technical education. You never provide materials or books.
8. Promote educated non biased Bahamians not political patrons
9. Have a proper promotional system.. Most positions are filled before they are advertised.
10. Have qualified teachers. CEHS music teacher was a bus driver and is not qualified.
P Point. His wife is on the staff is not qualified. THis is the tip of the iceberg.

The roof in the Auto-Mechanics workshop in Central Eleuthera High school has leaked badly for over 10 years, lights have never been repaired, doors not functional and exposed plug sockets. The Minister himself visited but nothing has been done and yes every year a substantial number (in excess of 20) complete their BGCSE in this area. $20,000 would have brought this unsafe building up to standard but it has never been done.. As usual country up to its eyes in debt, food prices sky high, VAT killing the little man but we still have money to waste.

OMG says...

Just think what the money wasted on Carnival could have done paying clean up crews, establishing many garbage bins (that are emptied) painting Bay street etc etc etc Wake up politicians as many have said this destination is becoming jaded and there so many other places to go that are much cheaper and much better.

Not only BEC, Try BTC, Social services, persons in the administrators office all using government cars for personal use.

Typical Government bull, no problem getting VAT implemented but always a problem when it comes to lower electricity prices.

Will be given to a PP supporter. Whilst we are at it could he Minister explain why we have this influx of Cuban teachers many of whom can hardly speak English added to which the Ministry is paying rental for accommodation roughly $600 month per teacher when there are often qualified english speaking teachers living in their own houses unemployed. Multiply this by several islands and the cost is enormous. Ah to hell with it, let's borrow some more money at increased interest rates.
