This is sad given how hard the majority of nurses work, and I question why several months ago all the teachers were given $1500 each ? That being said any government in power PLP,FNM would have struggled with the events of the last 2 years . Hurricane Dorien, Covid, lack of tourists mean more dollars going out than coming in , but, in good times both governments spend like no tomorrow ,just look at the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on a huge pile of curry excavated for a hospital never to be built in Palmetto Point or the $1500 for the teachers or mad cap new ideas in education, and many more I am sure. Unfortunately we in the Bahamas often spend for today with no thought for tomorrow.
Why does Belinda not object to hiring of Cuban teachers when there are often suitably qualified residents living in the Bahamas. So often Cuban teachers have difficulty speaking understandable English, have no loyalty to the system, do not spend or fully interact with the local community and realise that there is no comeback should they not perform becausethey will be returning back to |Cuba laden with electronics etc. This is not a total answer to the present situation but does have an effect on the overall results from students.
Can you believe that nurses furthering their education , for example training to be midwives, are being told that their salaries have to adjusted downwards because they are in training and recently told that they owed the government $10,000 overpayment that would be deducted from their already poor salaries. No wonder Bahamian nurses often want to go and work abroad because of the stupidity of pencil pushers behind a desk.
Tribanon, where do you get this nonsense from"lethal injection". Of course you are free to choose but be preparedto have travel regulations stipulate that you have been innoculated. Hope you never had the polio shot as a baby, or cholera shot or tetanus shot created by scientists and produced by " big pharma" , I mean what use were they. Will I have injection ,absolutely and have the chip removed.
Play the political card all you like the fact is PLP FNM or any other governing party would have been subjected to the terrible series of consequences that have happened of late. Yes assistance is required but bear in mind running a country and its finances are just a larger scaled up version of domestic finances. Simple truth is you can only spend what you earn and only borrow what you can repay. In simple terms if an individual maxes out their credit they either have to cut back on personal expenditure and or take a second source of income. Every country is facing huge deficits including the UK which has already told the population to prepare for tax increases. The Bahamas with its reliance on tourism, small population is of course in a very difficult position. That being said prior to this and after hurricane Dorian the government paid out a bonus to every teacher of $1500. Why when the countries finances are already in a dangerous state.
Another world conspiracy theorist surfaces. Please suggest a viable alternative. Feel free not to be vaccinated but don't complain if you catch covid and the economy continues to deteriorate. I will bet that airlines, immigration and other bodies will soon be demanding proof of vaccination for travel. Looks like you watch and believe what Trump is putting out there.
