Mismanagement of funds, my God the PLP were experts and left such a mess that no government can wave a magic wand and sort of the mess overnight. Lets see Fweddy, All the political hires just before the election, The giving out of contracts without bids, the non payment of utilities by privileged members or Parliarment mad schemes such as clearing and ripping land in Palmetto Point for a hospital that the country couldn't afford and remains a mountain of curry. The list goes on and on- you have a nerve to even open your mouth.

What nonsense. Can you see a burly construction worker or teenager saying "goody, I can have some Almond milk and canned Tuna". Oh by the way canned Tuna has way over the safe limit of zinc. As for vegetables, recently a local family island store was selling tomatoes for $1.50 to $ 2.00 each. What will happen is that the average family struggling already to afford food will simply pay the mark up. After all we are screwed every day by our local stores. Maybe lowering the exorbitant cost of electricity might lower the overheads of shops and by some miracle they would pass on the savings.

More to the point is by what standard does a police officer take the law into his/her own hands and deny the accused his right to see the warrant and then threaten arrest. I thought all the ill educated , arrogant, misplaced numbskull police officers had been replaced.

Price control- you are joking ! Prices go up daily and the problem with people like the Minister making stipulations on healthy diet foods is that he and others have salaries that can pay the ridiculous prices for almost all food items. Minister many Bahamians are struggling just to eat basics let alone anything that you deem "they should like" Take breakfast cereal where the price of name brands makes them a luxury so what happens is the cheap generic brands follow suit. We are already taxed to the hilt.

Weeks and weeks of work went into cutting a flat area for the so called hospital in Palmetto Point on land purchased from whom? There is a mountain of curry that could be sold . Workers house located near to Governors Harbour could be converted but of course the instigators of this so called hospital in Palmetto Point were obviously more interested in what friends could benefit from rather than the reality of this costly venture. The ground breakings alone could have gone a long way to renovating an existing building. Those in.volved should be named, shamed and prosecuted

A couple of points.
1. Only governmennt and registered business owners would or could be targeted. Fishermen, construction workers and the Hatien community would never pay.

2.the last government wasted the entire VAT income and bear in mind the other taxes. How the hell can you justify 10% stamp tax on property sales + plus VAT.? Look at air fare taxes USA to Naasau Approx $ 6 Nassau to USA over a $100. and what do we have to show for it ????.

The solutions to all the countries problems are going to be difficult to solve at a stroke. Remember all that VAT money on top of import duties was spent by the previous administration on worthless projects and lousy non bid contracts. Yes the middle class is suffering but maybe its time to hold accountable the politicians, Permanent secretaries and others who signed off or benefitted from these deals and prosecute them . The state the country is in did not happen overnight but took years of mismanagement. And for once I totally agree with TaRussell.

It would be easy (and some will) blame the present government for this blacklisting but truth be told this is an ongoing problem from the last administration. It does however typify the cultural attitude that we can do what we want at our own pace when in reality the world and by extension countries are intertwined in many areas including finance. Yes the big countries call the shots but in matters like this cooperate or take the consequences.

A great event, and it needs to be recognized all the hard work behind the scenes that goes into putting it on.

Always a witch hunt when caught in shady dealings. Please explain Mr Davies where all our VAT money went as your lot spent it and more with not one cent paying down the national debt.
