Anothet scam is the use of a friends name who is stuck abroad had all their possesions stolen and needing the cash to get home. Then consider these televangelists begging money and living like Kings. Petet Popoff advertizes on TV with his miracle spring water. Absolutely free. No its not you are then on his mailing list for begging letters. What is even more interesting is that this scammer has been bankrupt, investigated by the FBI and proven to use a hidden earpiece when able to diagnose a person in the audience that his wife had questioned. . Try Eleuthera where total or partial lack of water is so regular that one greets H2O coming out of the tap like a long lost friend. And the local manager is nowhere to be seen .
Keep going with your anti foreigner attitude. You deliberately minimize the benefits of foreign owned and operated businesses. On Eleuthera Pinaepple fields and Tippys give a great deal to the community and spend a hell of a lot on tradespeople, staff and worthwhile causes. 1648 or French leave is a professional business that employs all Bahmians who are excellent at their jobs. All the substantial construction which is ongoing was done to the highest standard by a totally owned and managed Bahamian construction company. Windermere employs many from maids ,local landscaping companies, club staff and the list goes on and on.Ironically the least sucessful hotel restaurant is totally Bahamian owned. Ask most tradespeople and they will say they like working for foreign home owners or companies because they get paid and paid on time. You conveniently forget Buckaneer, Daddy Joes,Sammys, and many other Bahamian owned and run restaurants that are sucessful. Eleuthera woild be a basket case without all the foeriegn income and involvement.
Brave you obviously have memory loss. Your corrupt lot hired over 2000 persons just before the election when there were no positions and simply to garner votes. Job losses are tragic yes but most ministries are still way over staffed and paid for by our taxes. Still you have to find something to bitch about in a vain attempt to claw back any credibility for the PLP. If you had been re elected then the country would be in an almost bankrupt spiral
The corrupt and politically inefficient tax system of the Bahamas since independence have left the country in a position of high taxation and high prices. For years I observed a prominent PLP Cabinet Minister and his wife sail through customs only for the next person in line to be searched and pay duty. Merchants are saddled with taxes at every corner, high power bills and have to pass it on. Shopping in Mia is always cheaper and high taxes encourage the public to defraud the government.
Does the prime Minister ever take note of these concerns ? When you take the 10% tax +VAT + realtor commission plus lawyers fees plus registration fees you may as well burn the property down. How short sighted. A property is only worth what the market dictates not what it was 10 years ago. Who are the desk pushing idiots who try this nonsense?. Mr Minnis and your Cabinet take some action use your authority and commonsense after all as the letter writer stated a thriving property market brings in revenue streams from many other related sources.
You are totally deluded in that the Bahamas cannot be replicated anywhere else. Try Goa in India, sandy beaches, palm trees and MUCH Much cheaper, tryTrinidad and Tabago. Its this we are special that has led to a complacency over the years whilst other countries have surged ahead. If you really believe that the world and for that matter tourists actually care about you inaccurate and head in the sand beliefs then carry on. Tourist arrivals decline annually and ask yourself why if the Bahamas is so perfect ?
Why in this age do we still have mounds of paperwork in government institutions. Why do we have bank employees that count money by hand. Have a national database whereby all drivers are entered with insurance and road license renewal dates and plate numbers. In the UK a camera on a police car records every car passing, instantly compares the tag with a national database and then the police can determine whether it is legally on the road. The initial cost would soon be recouped by fines ,increased collection of fees and auctioning off seized cars.
