I totally agree. The gaming shops have made some Bahamians incredibly wealthy on the backs of struggling Bahamians. As for BAMSI, why the hell are they growing vegetables/fruit that the average Bahamian farmer has been growing for years and is an expert. Why not teach/experiment growing the stuff that is imported and expensive such as Romaine Lettuce at $10 a pack?

Many foreign homeowners have tried to pay the existing tax but simply cannot find anybody in authority to give it to. As for private homes for rental, Eleuthera is saturated with them and this is not fair to any legally licensed hotel which had to pay all sorts of fees to the government which adds to the cost of a room.

Look at the last PLP minister of Health. He could barely string two words together let alone a sentence. As for corruption there is plenty of that on the family islands. I was told that on one family island a senior employee rented one of her cars to the local clinic/Ministry of health for months to the extent that a new car could have been bought with the same money. Political cronyism at its best.

" Duty free shopping " yes there are signs everywhere but this is another Bahamian dream world where you try and con the visitors that there really is a bargain to be had. Take liquor for example---cheaper in a high street shop in the states after tax than in a so called duty free liquor store here. People are after bargains and they are few and far between in the Bahamas.
As for Bay street -one end full of tee shirt, jewellery and liquor shops and the other looking like Alepo on a good day. No music, very few if any places to relax and have a drink after 5.30, so why would a cruise ship passenger want to enjoy Bay Street.

Fuzzy logic whereby the ordinary citizen gets his power and cable and water turned off if he or she is in arrears for less than a few months, evicted if in arrears with rent yet we are expected to believe that nobody monitors rental payments from these shops to NAD on a monthly basis. Can you imaging owing a a private landlord $10,000 and then saying if you discount it by $5000 I will pay the rest ?????. Of course there was political / personal intervention and the public have to subsidise this 4th world way of doing business by higher airport fees. Simple pay up or get out and go to court.

Great keep exposing these crooks, but name and shame them and those involved should be prosecuted. The public needs to know names.

This shows why the Bahamas is due to flounder in this modern world when you obviously don't understand the bigger picture. If a Bahamian teacher goes to America or Germany or the UK they are employed under the same terms as a native. In the Bahamas no- an expatriate/permanent resident can work his entire life here doing the same as his Bahamian colleagues but upon retirement is not entitled to a teachers pension. This is discrimination and it seems that it is rife in this country. Never mind Birdie you carry on thinking that these things are right and see how it backfires in the long run.

You may be technically right but morally wrong and what needs to change is this"we are the Bahamas and we can do what we like". The reality is that this little country can be closed down financially and physically with the stroke of a pen and believe me there are countess destinations with the same blue waters , sunny skies, and sandy beaches which can be visited including airfare for a lot less than this overpriced destination. This we are the best and the rest of the world owes us a living is dead in the water, just look at the recent figures showing how once again the Bahamas has slipped in the rakings of the " ease of doing business countries". My point is simple, you can do whatever you want because this is your country but the reality my friend is that outside forces enable you to live and disregard the rules of fair play and you will reap the fallout. In fact we already are.

Not incompetent BUT they have to act and act now. No we will not pay all the incoming bills without careful scrutiny, no letting all the recent pre election hires stay in place, fire the consultants, terminate the director of education who is 2 years past retirement, in essence cut cut and cut again expenditure------- There is no other choice.
