There is no time for rhetoric, it is time to investigate all the missing money, name and prosecute the thieves and start doing the job in hand. Sorry to say but cancel the 52 week employees who in many cases have nothing to do. Do not rehire . Retire the employees rehired after reaching retirement age, stop expensive projects such as the mini hospital in Palmetto Point and elsewhere. So many expats and Bahamians are getting their money out of the country in anticipation of further downgrading and devaluation. Christie and his rougues have a lot to answer for and have handled the national purse like a kid with his first credit card. Despite record VAT and the many other tax increases we still have a crumbling infrastructure. Take central Eleuthera as an example where a regular water supply is something of a novelty and no two days go by without a water supply yet nothing is done.
"Paints it in a negative light" wow? This is the government that hired all those persons just before the election simply to buy votes, A prime minister who said "it is easy to piss away money". Presided over a downgrade and increased spending despite record taxes including Vat .Used the so called "peoples station" as a PLP propaganda machine. A party who have proven MP's who took financial incentives and or solicited business for their personal gain. What the hell , you made your own "negative light" or rather darkness.
Start with the Minister of Education, two years past retirement. Then all ex BUT Presidents rehired as consultants, unqualified ex stewardess hired as head of National Insurance office in a family island. Just think you have already saved $3,275,000 on that old geriatric fool Baltron Bethel and that excludes his perks. Now repeat this time and time again and look how much money you will save in 5 years
They couldn't understand how to contain expenditure when they were in power so how the hell ould any of them even begin to make any sort of suggestions or comments when in opposition ?
There is this false sense of national pride that says we must have a flashy $40,000 car but cannot pay our utility bills, build 30 million dollar (hospitals) when we cannot stock or repair the old clinics, have an airline which operates planes that often are half empty with more employees per plane than any other airline. This stubborn refusal to acknowledge the reality of not placing your basket higher than you can reach seems to escape most politicians. All newly submitted bills, contracts, projects must be scrutinized and if there is any doubt -stopped. The bloated civil service can be reduced through natural wastage and all the 52 weekers should be terminated at the end of their three month contract. Failure is not an option-downgrading and devaluation most definitely is.
Names, contracts. Cancel contracts subject to review. You cannot trim the budget if you put your head in the sand and say we won't terminate anybody just ask for greater efficiency and or re deployment. nonsense. there are people employed prior to the election who have nothing to do so until the government grows some balls and faces reality the deficit will grow and grow until we are in the same state as Jamaica.
1. stop spending. Can we afford a 30 million dollar (clinic) in central Eleuthera ? NO 2. Why are bulldozers working at huge expense for weeks on end to rip land to provide a level surface. stop it 3.Dismiss the 52 week workers. They are not trained, have nothing to do in most cases and just collect salary. cancel it 4.All vital projects put out for clear bidding. 5 Reduce the Government workforce with natural wastage. Do not rehire unless that position is critically important. start today. 6. Name and prosecute all responsible for thefts right down to local Government. 7. start doing these suggestions and most of those outlined above. 8. Examine every bill submitted and pay in full ONLY if it is reasonable and genuine. 9. do it now because time is running out and most of us do not have a foreign home and bank account which you can be sure most politicians do.
And yet every day for weeks we have over three D8 bulldozers, excavators and trucks reducing a hill to build so called 30 million dollar hospital in Palmetto Point ,Eleuthera at phenominal cost. . I don't care if it is budgeted for, use that money (if it ever existed) to reduce the debt. What is wrong with the politicians stop these projects dead in their tracks-simply upgrade the existing clinic. stop spending now .
