There is this false sense of national pride that says we must have a flashy $40,000 car but cannot pay our utility bills, build 30 million dollar (hospitals) when we cannot stock or repair the old clinics, have an airline which operates planes that often are half empty with more employees per plane than any other airline. This stubborn refusal to acknowledge the reality of not placing your basket higher than you can reach seems to escape most politicians. All newly submitted bills, contracts, projects must be scrutinized and if there is any doubt -stopped. The bloated civil service can be reduced through natural wastage and all the 52 weekers should be terminated at the end of their three month contract. Failure is not an option-downgrading and devaluation most definitely is.

OMG says...

Names, contracts. Cancel contracts subject to review. You cannot trim the budget if you put your head in the sand and say we won't terminate anybody just ask for greater efficiency and or re deployment. nonsense. there are people employed prior to the election who have nothing to do so until the government grows some balls and faces reality the deficit will grow and grow until we are in the same state as Jamaica.

Simple. cancel all projects and investigate all bills. Guarantee many projects are unaffordable unnecessary or downright fraudulent.

1. stop spending. Can we afford a 30 million dollar (clinic) in central Eleuthera ? NO
2. Why are bulldozers working at huge expense for weeks on end to rip land to provide a level surface. stop it
3.Dismiss the 52 week workers. They are not trained, have nothing to do in most cases and just collect salary. cancel it
4.All vital projects put out for clear bidding.
5 Reduce the Government workforce with natural wastage. Do not rehire unless that position is critically important. start today.
6. Name and prosecute all responsible for thefts right down to local Government.
7. start doing these suggestions and most of those outlined above.
8. Examine every bill submitted and pay in full ONLY if it is reasonable and genuine.
9. do it now because time is running out and most of us do not have a foreign home and bank account which you can be sure most politicians do.

And yet every day for weeks we have over three D8 bulldozers, excavators and trucks reducing a hill to build so called 30 million dollar hospital in Palmetto Point ,Eleuthera at phenominal cost. . I don't care if it is budgeted for, use that money (if it ever existed) to reduce the debt. What is wrong with the politicians stop these projects dead in their tracks-simply upgrade the existing clinic. stop spending now .

Start with head of National Insurance in Governors Harbour-no experience -appointed above long serving experienced employees. Disgusting.

Sheeprunner, maybe you should put this accurate information on picture cards like they do for Trump, because they are so incompetent that they couldn't get drunk in a free liquor store. They used the VAT money like a free money pot with no thought to the national debt or any potential national disaster and now the FNM has to try and salvage the situation. There should always have been a disaster fund set aside, but there again "its easy to piss away money " so says Christie.

Unfortunately if this country is to ever get out of debt the government and the population are going to have to make some drastic changes. Funny how the Bahamasair staff in Central Eleuthera are on limited time due to lack of flights but the old airport manager not only retires but gets another job with Bahamasair in Nassau. This seems to be a created position for a party loyalist and not necessary. How many times is this repeated over the entire Bahamas.

Only works if prices are monitored. Here on Family islands prices never go down and any savings on transportation costs etc just add to the merchants bottom line. We need price control inspectors on the islands who cannot be bought off.
