So very true. Cut the number of subjects in Primary school, focus on basic English Language and Arithmetic and then in High school divide students into academic and practical subjects. One problem and there are many is that idiots in the MOE see some new fangled American idea and then say "lets do that in the Bahamas". Career advice is to late and lacking in substance but underpinning everything is students realization that so many students get jobs because of politics and not ability.

Not a way to end a lengthy career but he says he "tried his best"....... but his Ministers were out of control, the fact that he said it is "easy to piss away money" shows by default that he is admitting to wasteful use of VAT. Whatever you think of him, my guess is he is glad to be retired however he has left a hell of a financial mess to clean up.

Sad little man. I can quote names and places on Eleuthera where political PLP victimization took place. What about the mass hirings, the money and bills being paid out just before the election ,Fred??? The vote for the FNM was not only by supporters but members of your own party fed up with the lies, corruption, cronyism and lack of accountability. The country will save a fortune now that you have to travel at your own expense. Goof riddance little man.

Deception ???? you really are sniffing the glue. On Eleuthera and many other islands your ilk were handing out jobs and money like fresh air. The FNM needs to expose the mismanagement of public funds, corruption, mass hiring's and then maybe you will see who needs to apologize.

You need to retain some of the more senior teachers to use their wealth of expertise. For example older teachers are better (male and female) of breaking up or stopping fights as opposed to younger teachers who are seen as a threat to the macho male student. But if your talking about clinging on to posts lets start with the Director and Deputy director then all the consultants.

OMG says...

Your right and that's because of the PLP straight and simple.

So much nonsense.
1. Get rid of Sands the director. He is a liar, I know from first hand experience.
2.Get rid of the deputy director who goes and recruits Cuban teachers often with no expertise in that subject area and little interest in the system other than getting all they can from Amazon to take back. I know this for a fact.
3. Separate academic from practical students.
4. Simplify the subjects offered at Primary level. Why the hell teach Spanish when they can't even write or read properly when they reach high school.
5. Stop this nonsense of making Heads of department to give "them the experience" when often they are junior to experienced members of staff in that department.
6. Stop all the nonsense 1/2 days, teacher appreciation days, visiting gospel groups and all the other time wasting events.
In effect the system is broken, often with poor vindictive and insecure Principals.

There are many ways to start to solve the financial crisis which has to happen if a final downgrade and devaluation is not to occur,
1. Retire all these so called political consultants ex:Baltron Bethel
2. Allow natural wastage in the civil service to reduce salaries bill.
3.Find an efficient method of taxing all the winter resident homes being rented.
4. Apply a small but daily "hook" tax on popular boating destinations such as Exuma.
5. Re evaluate expensive projects such as the election grabbing Palmetto Point hospital. $30,000000 ??????
6. Take legal action to reclaim monies paid as political rewards such as the purchase of land for the P.Point hospital from a former minister when crown land is available.

Birdie you are a classic example of the old ,frayed, corrupt , mindless PLP supporter who will not or are not capable of seeing the absolute mess the country is in and a stubborn refusal to see the need for urgent change.

OMG says...

All I can assume Birdie is that you are one of the favoured who has had handouts, jobs or other benefits from the PLP. Can't you get it through your more than thick skull that the past government not only increased taxes dramatically and not only spent it but borrowed more. In simple English there is a recent warning by educated financial experts that very soon without action the national debt paytments will equal the entire national GDP. That means zero cash for infrastructure, investment, etc etc etc. We have got rid of the old guard PLP who have run this country like their own club, just throwing a few crumbs out to people like you knowing you would be happy. Minnis has one hell of a job treading the fine line between economic recovery and taxation, but it is now or never and whatever you might think he inherited the financial mess created by your hero.
