A the man with a big magic wand flew down to the Bahamas and said " here you are Mr Davies, as much money as you want for all these splendid ideas, and just forget what we already owe". If the PLP get in watch for a host of broken promises and raises in taxes. Enjoy the free tee shirts, chicken and beer whilst you can because harder times ahead whoever gets in.
Whomsoever wins be it PLP or FNM they all face the same problems of huge national debt and the difficulty of replacing decaying buildings. In fairness had the PLP been in power for the last three plus years can they state with absolute clarity how they would have handled the devastating hurricane and the equally devastating covid epidemic and done it without incurring massive debt. What the average Bahamian seems not to realise is that running a country comes down to basic financial maths. Income in - expenditure out. If you spend more than you earn then you have to borrow. Its that simple whoever you support.
Get your free chicken, tee shirt and beer because PLP have you believe they have a magic wand. Funny how they are going to promote vaccinations , how exactly.
So so many had a go at Brent Symonette for being a millionaire. Smacks of racism. Bear in mind Hank Johnson FNM incumbent MP is a self made businessman but not even close to being a millionaire as opposed to the three contendors. Just saying as so many seem to get wealthier once in offoce.
The problem with most democratic systems is that it is incumbent on the opposition to find fault with everything that the government is power does simply to be seen by its supporters as doing their job. How often do you see any opposition party actually support a motion tabled by the ruling party that will benefit the country . It is so easy to have all the solutions from outside but surely two hurricanes, worldwide covid and a severe reduction in tourism would pose the same problems for the PLP had they been in power. It seems that there is no continuity of good policies by one government when the other party takes power and changes everything. Growth of a country takes sound policies in place for years not one term. BUT nothing will change and we will see hundreds of thousands spent on tee shirts, music, travel, free chicken and booze, signs and backhanders just to get fools who actually believe all the wild promises made, just to get elected.
This virus is deadly if you happen to have underlying medical conditions , are elderly or have a weaken immune system, yet despite this article and many others showing patients gasping for death one day and dead the next, or suffering for months afterwards with long covid anti vaxers, conspiracy theorists still advocate against being vaccinated. I hope he survives and pulls through but if he has not been vaccinated for whatever reason this should be conveyed to the public in the hope that a well known figure in Bahamian society could influence those sitting on the fence.
Went private at PMH years ago, room was disgusting plumbing didn't work etc etc but the real issue was the totally incompetant night nurse who refused to believe I was having an asthma attack . Without persistance on my wife's part I would have died. Added to which after surgery rare visits by nursing staff during day shift but you could hear them laughing and having a great time further down the corridor. Undoubtably many hard working and efficient nurses but quality of medical attention seems to vary .
And you really believe that an alternative party will wave a magic wand and anti vaxers will suddenly rush to be vaccinated, that covid will dissapear, that foreign lending institutions will forgive all the national debt and thousands of tourists will solve the problem. Oh add to that all the promises, new docks new hospitals glass window bridge, rebuilding Abaco GB and on and on. I guarantee a PLP gpvernment will not have any radical solutipn except to find new ways to tax the public. ( but that only comes after they have been elected, no mention before because its a vote looser)
KapunkiUp is exactly right. Being in power be it PLP or FNM is a well paid job with perks so governments all over the world rarely focus on what should be done rather what they think the public will tolerate. Look at the PLP candidate for south Eleuthera promising a state of the art hospital,,( where will the money come from). The old chesnut about education and opportunities for students. ( why hire cubans not trained in the subject they are to teach or often with limited ability to speak english and no interest in being integrated with the community) or some new Principals who are so jnsecure they just dictate as opposed to consult staff. Then there is the old farming / business chesnut. It seems that one Eleuthera has done what no government has ever been able to achieve.
