First of all "banker says" would you like to be reminded that BOB is not profitable and gave out many large unsecured, un repayed loans to some Bahamians. What a way of doing business. Secondly I agree that banking here is a joke where we pay massive annual fees for credit cards and RBC charge $10 to cash a cheque on a RBC account in the bank where that account is held. In essence $10 for passing a piece of paper over the counter.
This is the same man who went on ZNS a few weeks ago and stated that all school repairs were almost completed. Furthermore are we not suprised that this country is in such an economic mess that now contracts are being given out without proper scrutiny or evaluation. I see many PLP contractors milking this one.l
Loretta, is articulate, well presented, and firm wheras Minnis just doesn't cut it as a potential prime minister. But unless FNM get their act together and quick the PLP have won the next election .
I have said it before that Alburys canned lima beans are almost a dollar more than imported lima beans. The solution is simple, give a tax break to Alburys enabling them to compete with the large American companies and in doing that you keep cash at home, keep people employed and in turn they spend. Oh heck I must be doing drugs to say something that actually might work but not realising that Governments are to remote , inflexible and blinkered to address specific problems. Lets just let Alburys close, make Bahamians redundant because irts easier.
It is incomprehensible to me how the powers to be do not see the looming crisis and take swift action to cut expenditure. In reality the VAT, ludicrous disposable tax and other taxes have been totally squandered . Better to bite the bullet now than face devaluation but any sane person knows that government ministers are about pleasing the electorate at any expense just to be re-elected.
It is who you know always. Every island has its "royalty" who run the churches and businesses, and are given special treatment if and when it comes to court. If joe blow causes death with a vehicle whilst drunk (vehicular manslaughter) he will probably get a fine and imprisonment. Not so if you are connected . A good lawyer and a fine and free as a bird.I have even seen one person who had been fired from numerous jobs and served jail time get a position as security at a government airport.
BPL must have been on drugs when they took over this bloated, inefficient debt ridden ,outdated corporation. Hate to say so but quite a clever move on the part of the PM. They are restricted in everything they do and he takes the credit for standing up for the people, and he can blame them for everything that goes wrong Here on Eleuthera we recently had a 4 hour black out, a two hour blackout and then a ten hour blackout all within a three day period. How is that for progress in the 21st century.
Please tell me what Jerome Fitzgerald has done that benefitted education. As a long serving teacher supplies to schools have become more and more infrequent, Maintenance and repairs are sadly wanting especially on the family islands and more hair brained schemes like the most recent "student tracking 5 million dollar " brainchild. We all know Mr Fitzgerald that the D average is due to many factors not being addressed. First stop 98% of these visiting speakers to school which interrupt classroom time.Secondly get rid of these incompetent Principals who are there just for their own career advancement. Thirdly stop all these days off or going home early because of evening PTA meetings, staff awards etc etc. Finally go bqck to basics in Primary school, why teach primary school students Spanish when many of them enter High school unable to speak or write English properly, why not spend more time teaching basic arithmetic ?. A return to the three 'R' s would be much better than all these electronic teaching aids multitude of subjects and adoption of everything that is American and therefore deemed to be great.
I Would like to add that Ms Dunkley could equally visit the PMH blood bank every 8 weeks and donate. I have to say that I always find the staff willing and hard working.
