Freedom of information will help with poverty. We aren't a poor country our GDP per population is very high (just above Saudi Arabia). But the distribution of the money is concentrated amongst a small group. If the wealth was more evenly distributed the average Bahamian would live a comfortable life.
Give the people the information so the power is in the hands of the people to right the wrongs. The people who got in this mess are telling us to 'mind ya business we focused on making your life better'. Yeah right, give me a break.
What was the crime? And is the response proportional to the crime? We wouldn't dare do something like this to Peter Nygard or Sam Bankman-Fried. If all they did was say/write something.
We only associate our failures with African countries because we share a colonial past with them. By design, the former colonies failed to become prosperous independent countries. We adopted a political and governing system designed for a colony. We did not create a new system design for an independent country. So now our leaders are black Bahamians but they're not much different in their treatment of the people (subjects/slaves) as the white British lords who ruled over the Bahamas.
We need to ask ourselves what we want the Bahamas to be and create new systems that promote that outcome. Instead of trying to make a system designed for exploitation work for us.
Things keep burning down while surrounded by water, I'm concerned about our ability to stop fires inland. Don't they have a truck or boat with a high-volume water pump to put out the fires with seawater?

We have many examples of corruption and incompetence throughout our political, legal, and governance systems. I wouldn't give them a licence to kill.
