Jobs, Education and Opportunity! If education is one the keys to success, why is it so expensive? Rather than spending millions to put them in a box, start early, make education a top priority, as a progressive democracy let make it FREE! Every and any Bahamian who wants any education in The Bahamas is FREE, then watch petty crime drop, watch our GDP, watch the expansion of the middle class, watch private business ownership, watch new surnames added to our government etc, etc. It's amazing that the same surnames who 'ruled' the Bahamas 20 rather 40 years ago are still ruling the Bahamas! Not the same individuals, obviously, but their sons, daughters, grand kids, cousin, niece, nephews, now their great grand kids are currently in college and universities to be the future 'rulers' of The Bahamas, why? because they can afford to pay for education etc. free education for all bahamians? This will create a problem for the politicians Divide and Rule plan, an highly educated majority is very difficult to be fooled. This is not a 'hand out' add it to this VAT nonsense that will be soon implemented, that will crush the poor and middle class, Google the history of taxes in England, the rich do not like paying taxes, they pay for loopholes to AVOID paying taxes.
Freedom Of Information Act is not a partisan party football to just kick around to gain political points, this is a right to every Citizen Of The Commonwealth Of The Bahamas! What's amazing is that Citizens will defend their party to NOT implement the FOIA, this is heartbreaking! The FOIA is for YOU! the electorate. I agree with Bran, these are 21st century issues that need to be address and implemented in this our developing democracy. Any political party who have govern The Bahamas in the last 40 years WILL have 'dirt on their hands' when the FOIA becomes law, the question is who and how much. We are so quick to defend political colors, we should be more eager to defend the Aquamarine, Gold & Black. #DivideThemAndRuleThem
I don't agree with Minister Mitchell on everything, however, I can certainly respect ambition. He seem to be a bit sensitive, but very strong headed. The former Millionaire DPM came from a family with interesting history. The UBP, FNM and the U.S obviously can get along, their history and objective for the Bahamas is and has always been the same...
I am somewhat oppose to this drilling in beautiful Bimini. But The Privy Council have some serious power in The Bahamas! Do we have a Freedom of information act? I am suddenly becoming more and more interested to do some reading of old Bahamian documents from the 1960's & 70's.
Uppity? Interesting choice of word. However, I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of your comments. IMHO, Our Government seems to be saturated with Morons and DINO's.
IMHO, we (Bahamas) are being systematically disbanded and destroyed because our own stupidity! Now, all we need to do is borrow more money from the IMF or World Bank and default on the payments. 3 years from now who will win the election?? and what's the difference between FNM and PLP again? absolutely nothing!! Divide and Rule! The BCC is sleeping with the 'enemy', instead of pacifying the poor and uninformed, they need to 'roll over' and whip the ones they're laying in bed with! What an obvious Pyramid scheme!
We kill, disenfranchise, destroy communities, incarcerate, destroy lives, seize property, empty bank accounts, now, we can't even make a cell phone call without the hypocritical U.S government listening, all because of that terrible dope & young men! Meanwhile selling the same and more potent dope legally in Colorado and Washington State plus others....The C.I.A does not want competition in the billion dollar drug trade, so here's a few million 'hush' and 'stand down' dollars. Meanwhile, let the destructive alcohol flow!! When you need a liver or kidney come to the U.S and get on the waiting list or pay a nice premium! we are being used majorly!! You cannot legislate morality! I personally DO NOT want to watch a pastor and his wife having a threesome, am I going to pass a law against it? NO! It's between consenting adults, their conscious and their 'maker', And I will defend their rights to 'get their freak on'!!!. The war on drugs is a sham for the liquor and Big Pharma, The DEA is a spy agency!! duhhh.. Are we such simpletons not to believe the U.S when the say the will do any & everything to protect their interest worldwide??? Can't blame them either! What are OUR government doing other than just drinking the kool-aid and lining their pockets while selling every inch of the Bahamas and it's natural resources, because Tourism is going to last forever! absolutely not!!! We need to vote out all these 'DINO's' in our government, these young foreigners are too savvy for them. Imagine trying to explain RAM, Gigabytes, terabytes, motherboard etc, etc to these DINO's who got a law degree back in the 60 & 70's?? We (Bahamians) are being taken for a ride by many (not all of them) of these savvy foreign invaders! The only concern for our leaders seem to be "how much can I pocket for me and my cronies". We need the equivalent of the NRA in our Bahamaland, these crooks seem to fear no one, and use religion to pacify those struggling.the government should FEAR the PEOPLE, not the people fear the Government. Like the U.S we are rapidly becoming an oligarchy... And the aragonite deal?? billions in profit but the bahamas get 600k????? we are better than this!!!
Respectfully, IMHO, Satan?? hate and anger from an imaginary being? Lets get real, hate and anger can be a mental defect, but this is a social issue, disenfranchisement, The heavily bias war on drugs and destroyed many minority communities, now we learn that the dea in the bahamas have 'allowed' the NSA to spy on every cell phone call in the entire nation!!! Lets be honest with ourselves, is the 'War on drugs' REALLY, worth all this destruction and lost of freedom?? Lack of education and opportunity etc, etc. Many of these 'murderers' are just 'hitmen' for the real murderers, disturbingly, many of the law firms that represent these murders are affiliated in some way with our Politicians!! it's BOTH their way of making a living! Am not condoning their actions, but we have to get real, THIS is the frustration in the Bahamas, that we can blame everything on or the 'solution' to fix any and every social ills created my man can be fixed by an imaginary 'person' many, even those who profit from it don't deeply beleive in or understand. Many of our 'religious leaders' are just Literalist and lack historical facts. Am not anti-religion, however I am a realist. We are now living in the residual of our past deeds and actions! The chickens have come home to roost! Hypocrisy, Cronyism and having our heads in the sand about who and what is really causing social ills in our Bahamaland are some of the problems. We've had religious indoctrination for the past 40 years, church on every corner, God written in the constitution, but lets be honest here, those laws are for the commoners, those laws does not apply to the elites, the 'movers and shakers' and their crony's. Now the commoners has now 'wise up' to the all for me greed. We need a change from the top down!! we are better than this!!
The Bahamas’ Listening Devices Act requires all wiretaps to be authorized in writing either by the minister of national security or the police commissioner in consultation with the attorney general. The individuals to be targeted must be named. Under the nation’s Data Protection Act, personal data may only be “collected by means which are both lawful and fair in the circumstances of the case.” The office of the Bahamian data protection commissioner, which administers the act, said in a statement that it “was not aware of the matter you raise.”
