Thanks for this article.
I think we need to reexamine our work requirements for those who work outside in summer.
Also, here in The Bahamas, do we ever really need to have our kids wearing long pants?

Porcupine says...

MB, yes we have too many guns, that is true.
Yet, the guns themselves pose no problem, if people respected life.
The world has changed. For me, the solution to this crime and violence issue is economic.
People who have nothing, have nothing to lose. That's why harsher sentencing doesn't work. These guys just don't care.
But, I hear you.
And, I agree with you.

And, this 30 year old "agreed" to forfeit 1.5 billion in assets.
Anyone one connected to running this scheme should have all of their assets taken. All.

We complicate matters because we are not focused.
Begin paying teachers a living wage and treat them decently.
Only then will we have qualified Bahamians wanting to teach.
As it is, it is simply a race to the bottom.

Porcupine says...

So, why doesn't the Ministry of Education, in one of the richest of Caribbean countries, pay teachers enough to incentivize Bahamian students to become teachers?
What if we paid teachers as much as we pay our useless MPs?
You think we'd have to bring in teachers from elsewhere?
With all this talk of fixing education, The Bahamas is way too jokey.
Problem is, if we educated our people properly, how would the D average politicians get away with the shit they currently get away with?
They wouldn't. So, don't expect education to get any better.

Porcupine says...

I appreciate diverse opinions.
The issue remains however, that there is endless talk with almost zero action from government.
The politicians are well aware of what their constituents want,
We just seem to be used to getting little to nothing done and fighting among themselves. Our nations productivity is deplorable. Not that this is the only metric to judge a country, but for God's sake.......
Is this arguable?
How about these back and forths about lipstick on a pig?
Responsible governance? Sad, yes?.

“Since Duane Sands knows what a pig looks like, he should find great comfort when he wakes up and looks in the mirror,” said PLP chairman Fred Mitchell.
Yes, this statement sums up the current state of Bahamian politics and the sick mentality of those who "govern" this country.
I find it difficult to find one among them with the intelligence or integrity to represent anyone.
Mitchell's comments remind me of the quote, "Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt".
Some call it yammering.

I have friends who believe as you do. I can't say you are wrong. I find it difficult to argue your points as I get older and see more of the things that I do.
But, I have a young son.
Trust me, I would like to throw my hands up. I consider this daily. But, this is exactly what the evil forces want us to do, isn't it?
