Now that the economy has crashed, who will tell Bahamians that they cannot feed their family, as they have had to in the past? Our natural resources will be driven to the point of decimation. The Bahamas National Trust is impotent to stop 99% of illegal taking of any species. This is just a fact since they have virtually no resources to defend what they have been tasked with. Short crawfish, tiny conch, smaller and smaller fish, bonefish, turtle and anything that swims will soon be on the menu at many Bahamian households. Hushmouth will take on a whole new meaning. Take food out of my kids mouth? Go take a hike, or you may not come home to your family. No mystery as to what the state of our natural resources will be in 2 years time. We will not need any foreigners to help us with this.
Absolutely right. We may thank those who donate in time of need, however that is no excuse for the leadership of a country to abdicate its role in planning ahead for all its citizens. As Dr. Martin Luther King said, "It is not enough to denounce poverty, we must denounce the system which creates the poverty in the first place. Have we done this? Absolutely not.
However, it is disappointing that NIB requests greatly detailed information from us for each employee, all of which NIB already has in their system. So, this inefficiency and delay is a major frustration for us and our colleagues.” Correction. This inefficiency and delay is a ongoing problem with NIB. They simply do not understand customer service and seem to actually want to thwart the process. All of this information they keep asking for is already in the system. Can't they hire a smart high school student to have them update their software? Something truly is fishy with NIB. But, we all know it has been a taxpayer paid slush fund to keep The Bahamas afloat. From Bank of Bahamas to who knows what other failed institutions. Instead of being used for the people, it seems NIB is used against "the people".
Fully agree. Halston Moultrie is an embarrassment to The Bahamas. This says a lot about those who put him in, and then stand behind him as he makes an ass out of himself, disrespecting protocol, and finding adolescent choice of words for his enemies. This country is currently led by a gang of fools. And like our neighbor to the north, I just don't see it getting better anytime soon. Shame on us.
The challenge is to accommodate all opinions and to respect where they are coming from as a human being, just like ourselves. I disagree with many of muddas opinions, but try and learn from them nonetheless. The true danger is that there is an echo chamber within any society. The lack of true college education is one which fosters this narrowing of perspective. My first eye opener didn't happen until I went to college. Where kids my age from all over the world had different opinions on everything from sex to economics to politics. It was only then that I truly realized that we are all basically the same decent people, just raised with different cultures. We have very far to go in allowing intelligent differences to be respected. Often in the name of God. This is a true failing of our country.
Sadly, I fear this is the state of prisons everywhere. There are riots going on in the States to the same complaints. These guys at the top have just grown numb. They care about their promotions and pension, little more. How is it that a group of men whom call themselves Christians can treat other humans in this manner? Seriously. Are the police so desensitized to human feelings that this is the state we are in? Prime Minister, please release all non-violent inmates until this is over. Monitor them and then crowd them them back together like animals, as is our custom, when it is safe to gather again. Your oath, I believe, was "do no harm". As a society, do we really not question the effectiveness of our entire "prison" system and mentality. Is it working? Can anyone say yes? Are we making our society safer? Are we rehabilitating the inmates? Can we be proud of our Christian beliefs if this is the best we can do, or is our finger pointed to the "other" as it usually is? Many believe that the police are the worst criminals we have in this country. I have heard it myself from many people.
I will shed my tears when Colina announces that a significant portion of its workers are unable to pay their bills, need to collect unemployment, and require food assistance. Even if this company looses money for a few years wouldn't bother me. We are so focused on money, profits, return on rental income, that we seem to have loss sight of people. The insurance industry, as a whole, is an extractive industry. The idea of someone in between my doctor and I determining what treatment I can, or cannot have, should be offensive to decent humans. We have just become so numbed to the idea of true human suffering, and too enamored with profits and glitter, that all we can think about is more more more. So what if profits remain flat for a few years? Are people dying? Perhaps if they are denied needed care by their insurance company. Our world seems lost.
I thought the exact same thing without having read your comments. Customs is just another method of wielding total control, and crippling anyone who sticks there head up. Could be Ash, could be any of us. And someday, it will be. Read your history.
