We just don't get it.
The whole country is in denial because our society here is based on lies and deceit.
Why waste your breath. Like triage, this place is too close to death, move on to those you may actually save.

Now, will The Bahamas start putting money aside, a fund, to be used to help other countries when crisis hits them? Or, is this more of the same, "Can I borrow......" knowing it will never, ever be paid back? We have a true critical thinking deficit here and a morality that follows suit. And, if you read the associated article on the pledges, it seems to me that The Bahamas is about to get swung. I know, we have to look for any silver lining we can and be forever optimistic and grateful.

Porcupine says...

Agreed, but not all of his thinking was wrong. History has a lesson for us too.

Porcupine says...

Actually Mr. Pratt, we don't have to wait and see.
You are grouping apples and oranges.
There are many countries in the world, and states in the U.S. that have effectively legalized marijuana. Take a look at them. Worse off than The Bahamas with are many many social problems? Certainly not. Understanding the racist history of the very beginning of prohibition of marijuana would be helpful. Understanding the realities of what marijuana is and why it is that we have the right to say what we ingest or smoke is another. I can understand regulating acceptable behaviour. If we were serious about that, we would simply ban alcohol and legalize marijuana immediately. Oh, but that might make sense and be a truly Christian act.

Every cruise line, every ship, must maintain a log which records every incident that occurs during any voyage. All the major ships, all the major shipping lines, all the major shippers and all the major cruise lines.”
“So we will have due access to all of the relevant information in short order, and I just want to assure the Bahamian people that this matter will be dealt with, and with the seriousness that it deserves. We are now armed with a host of environmental laws that gives the Government real power to deal with these matters.”
Sure we do Mr. Bethel. Just like the Bahamian people always have access to, and know what the Bahamian government is doing. Your words are empty. Nothing will be done, as usual. Nothing of any substance at all.
Once the Carnival lawyers enter your office, it will be case closed. For many reasons, of course.

Porcupine says...

The Bahamas is gonna get swung again. Well, let me clarify. The majority of working class and poor Bahamians, not mutually exclusive, will be swung again. Those doing the "deals" will be just fine.

Kevin Evans,

I have never before read such a short letter to the editor so filled with errors, delusions and downright falsehoods. Your perspective here goes against any type of honest logic there is. There is no, absolutely no excuse for Trump to be in any position of influence in any organization in the world. Your rose colored glasses for what the U.S. stands for is utterly delusional. Do you watch anything other than FOX news?

Soon, most Bahamians will not be able to afford to live in The Bahamas. Is this not clearly the case? Every time there is a ratchet up in building costs, the price of materials and the cost of land driven by our residency programs and cries for Foreign Direct Investment give-aways, while wages remain flat and the cost of living sky rockets, we will see more and more Bahamians slip into poverty, homelessness and destitution. Who cannot see this? Better, who chooses not to see it?

So did the typewriter manufacturing employees. Is this really the only job they can do. I give the bag boys more credit than that. Perhaps you and Picewell Forbes can get together and find a solution to this crime against bag boys.

I prefer the scenario that followed the Boston Tea party.
Get rid of the inept, corrupt, lying, thiefing, always taxing sorry excuses for representatives. .
And do this in any manner necessary.
