The IMF official who released this report is utterly delusional and uninformed. The Bahamian workforce will never rise above a fraction of productivity that exists now. The IMF is an organization meant to capture and enslave debtor countries that have ethically challenged leadership. The Bahamas fits this bill. The US has many foreign workers that actually work. If The Bahamas ever lets Mexicans into this country to work, Bahamians will starve. Not because Mexicans will steal their jobs, but because Mexicans will actually work. If this isn't apparent to you, get out of The Bahamas a bit more and look around. We have one of the worst work ethics imaginable. We all want jobs, but simply don't care to do any work. Sad, but true. One has to wonder if the person who wrote this report has ever been here.
Bingo Thisisours,"The one thing history tells us is you dont need the majority of people to be corrupt or criminal, you just need a bold few that noone wants to touch and they control the neighbourhood and the country." Every day, every island. I don't think Bahamians can fix it. Haven't yet, and show no inclination of doing so. We don't care. We simply don't care. The HOA is a basket of rotting bananas. The unnamed high ranking official could be anyone. Think about that for a minute. Our entire political establishment is so disgusting, so corrupt, that we have to guess which one of these clowns sold us out. We're all jokey, yes?
The truth of the matter is that The Bahamas is dead broke and these criminal international banks are continuing to make loans to this government, knowing how deeply in debt we are. This is about politics and power. These banks know the character of our politicians and do not mind that they are selling their own country down the road. There is not a shred of honesty or decency in this administration. Because the Bahamian people have placed so little emphasis on education, we have a populace unable to even read the paper, let alone understand the dangerous situation this country is in. From all observations, it seems rather apparent that we just don't care. This administration is dragging this country down, and we don't even seem to be interested. Hell, we may even vote the jokey leaders right back in. Sadly, this is the best we could do after 52 years?
I agree 100%. Start at the top, where the fish begins its rot. This administration is hiding far, far too much, and is totally compromised. Demand the US tell us the name of the high ranking politician. It may surprise us, it may not. In any case they need to face justice.
Further, what decent, educated, principled person with leadership capabilities would go so low as to associate with the group of people we call our leaders today? We are told to call them Honourable. I simply can't do it. The trouble is, our youth, those with drive, education, a willingness to contribute, and a sense of nation building, find little room in our country to thrive. That's why so, so many of our best and brightest have left these shores, never to return. Time to look outside for real leadership. Beyond the teachers, nurses, doctors, and consultants we import. We must face the harsh reality that we also lack the people to fill the positions for our successful governance.
Politics everywhere is leading the average person into slavery. This is not hyperbole. The world's people are distracted. We have shorter attention spans, less academic proficiency, and an inability to determine what is real and what is false. All we want now is instant gratification, to be entertained, to remain silent, and to plod along. Artificial Intelligence is only making it worse. Even photos, let alone the words of a politician, are now suspect. I've heard the saying that we get the leaders we deserve. It is undeniable that this administration has no interest in the People. None. They are there for themselves. This is amply demonstrated even by the poorest of reporting in our newspapers. If we don't care, why should we expect our leaders, who came from our communities to care? That we don't care is amply demonstrated in our everyday behaviour. On our roads, in our stores, at our public places, in our government offices. If The People don't care, why should the politicians? We are scraping the bottom of the barrel. This is the best our under-educated population can do. Davis, Minnis, any of these washed up, compromised people, simply cannot do any better. Maybe they've never seen better and haven't a clue what real leadership really is. Clearly, judging by the performance of our country and any intelligent prognosis of where we are headed, cannot be looked upon as successful, wise and intelligent political leadership. We place so little emphasis and devote so few resources to educating our people, that this outcome is assured. We have far too many ignorant, unmotivated and uneducated people in government now, that if you want service in any government office, we bring a handful of cash to get the job done. Seems this is true even at the highest office of this land. And, we expect good outcomes? And Simon says "you can't fatten a cow on market day." Actually Simon, some politicians still hand out money for votes on election day, make false promises, and pretend that they have the People's interest at heart. And, in fact, that seems to get the job of fattening done. Yes? What occurred to me is that if we want good governance, just based on our past experience, we need to look elsewhere. Just like we import foreigners to teach our kids, take care of our sick and to do our manual labor, we must expand our horizons. Clearly, after 52 years of independence, the inarguable results of failed leadership make themselves evident each and every day in Bahamaland. What will it take to realize that we do not have the needed qualifications for leadership here? We have neither the Christian character, the honesty, the wisdom nor the selflessness, necessary for true and forward thinking leadership. From my vantage point, I can see nobody with the requisite skill set, personality and integrity needed to lead a nation. If so, why have they remained silent?
I understand your frustration, because Bahamians do deserve better. I always battle with this idea of, if all the honest people stay silent, what's next?
“Our reporting is based on actual suspicious transactions. So comparatively, we feel that we’re doing okay. One may say it should be increased, but that’s where the training comes in on the front line, because in order for the report to be reported, it has to be initiated from the front line.”
From my reading of history, we still have a high ranking political official in this country who has sold us out and is clinging to his political cronies to keep his anti-Bahamian activity quiet.
A deeper reading of history points to the fact that many unscrupulous entities have found The Bahamas very much to their liking considering the low price people in government can be bought and paid for.
Mr Fawkes said the Gaming Board is among the “more respected regulators” for the sector internationally, and licensees have “very high” internal controls so there is little concern about deficiencies heading into the country’s evaluation by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global standard-setter for combating money laundering and financial crime.
“The Bahamas Gaming Board is one of the more respected regulators for gaming worldwide. Their demands affect your internal controls, the regulations affect your internal controls, which are very high,” said Mr Fawkes.
"Prime Minister Philip Davis also interjected, noting the committee had made its findings and the issue was no longer open for debate." Is there anything that is open for debate in this country that truly matters?
And the good lady says,“And I would not allow any member to call any committee that is made up of the Honourable Members that sit in this place to be called kangaroos."
From my perspective, judging by this body's performance, "kangaroo" would be a compliment.
But calling a kangaroo an MP would be an insult, to the kangaroo.
And, judging by the performance of Water & Sewerage, who would believe anything coming from someone who knows so little, does so little, but is family to the highest office in the land? How many Family Islanders have reliable water delivery? How many of these MPs actually live and sleep in their constituencies? We continue to kick the can down the road, while making excuses for our utter failure to lead and govern. What did Myles Munroe get wrong when he said politicians aren't leaders? We have groveling opportunists, nothing more.
