Seems like one major anti-corruption initiative would be to raise honest children.
Maybe another is to never give contracts to politicians.
Maybe even try a robust Freedom of Information Act.
And, since we are hell-bent on bringing capital punishment back, let's agree to publicly hang all corrupt politicians. Then, we would start looking towards Cuba for replacement politicians, just like we do for nurses. Since, all the "good" politicians would be fleeing this country.

That we're discussing this in terms of wondering who the fraudsters are, and who are good for The Bahamas, says it all.
Fred Mitchell and his Bahamian PLP ilk, along with the corrupt Chinese criminals are what we Bahamians have wrought onto ourselves.
That we have gone along with, and actually voted for these people says a lot about us.
That we can't even see who is good for our country and who isn't, shows in no uncertain terms that we have descended into a state of ignorance and moral decline. Don't take it from me, just read the daily papers. If there are those who are still able to read.
And now, with a certifiable moral-less moron in power in the US, we are in very good company.
End Times indeed.

Hey Dilly Tree,
Exactly right on all points.
Give Izmirlian both hotels and the Bahamian people would be much better off.
That man had Bahamians at heart and we sold him out. He believed in us, and our politicians, greedy little bastards and biches sold out the Bahamian people and Sarkis.
I hope he prevails, even though we know there is little to no justice anymore.
And CCA lawyers, you'll be paid no matter what. No matter how you help screw over the Bahamian people. I hope there is a God that puts you where you belong.

By the way Dr. Minnis, I can pull up many articles from the 1980's explicitly stating that temperatures were rising and the sea level rise consequences of this warming. What we are witnessing today is no surprise to those who have been paying attention. Playing petty politics is not the same as paying attention to the important issues.
Moving 400,000 people out of harm's way is much cheaper than trying save an island nation.
Simple economics on this one.

Porcupine says...

Dr. Minnis,
Neither the world, nor The Bahamas have made any steps in combating climate change or dealing with pandemics.
Both were man made. Both will be ignored until the cows come home. Just like every other issue we have neglected nationally. Be it our health care system, BPL, Water & Sewerage, Bank of Bahamas, Crown Land distribution, Road Traffic, etc. We don't believe in proper planning or solving problems. We simply blame it on the "other" administration.
Many of our Family Islands don't even have hurricane shelters, or clinics.
It will be cheaper to allow The Bahamas to be swallowed by the sea, and to emigrate, than to invest any money into preventing us from being inundated by the quickly rising sea.
We needed visionaries who were well versed in science, non-political and with strong management and leadership capabilities.
Sorry Dr. Minnis, but neither you nor any other politician who has ever been in office has those qualifications.
We can yap about it all we want, but we waited until the eleventh hour to make the clarion call.
These issues aren't new. We were just very slow to catch on. Now, all of a sudden, it is everyone else's obligation to respond to an emergency due to our own lack of proper planning.
Sorry, we reap what we sow. The politicians, like yourself, will be gone at the first hint of the shit hitting the fan. The rest of us who haven't made the $120,000 to qualify for middle class status will be left here to fend for ourselves.
I'm still having a hard time figuring out how a politician can become a millionaire, while in office on a public servant's salary.

You are correct. This translates into the fact that the vast majority of Bahamian citizens are economically impoverished. So long as we continue to elect leaders who are not only lacking vision, but are corrupt, ignorant and soulless, nothing can change. Even those who I know who are working two or three jobs, are still only making 25K- 30K a year, at best. As I have stated before, the hundreds of millions of dollars spent in the webshops and liquor stores each year are merely symptoms of a society that is sick and ill cared for. The 500 million to 600 hundred million dollars that leaves these shores each year to pay interest only on the loans taken out by our politicians leave little money to care for our own people.
Seems like it might be best to outsource the running of this country to foreigners. We have pretty much failed the Bahamian people. Yes?

Anyone hear the voice note about PMH the other day?
Anyone really believe these clinics will ever be opened, when we can't even be proud of our national hospital?
These clinics are merely a way to suck The People's money into the pockets of politicians.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Porcupine says...

Excellent point.
This is correct.
