Don't worry Mr. Maura, It is not just foreigners frustrated by the lack of consistency and clarity. Try opening a business in this country, as a Bahamian. No wonder people get discouraged and give up. Our national mentality suggests we simply don't care. We just don't care. Make people wait for a police record. Make people wait for NIB approval. Make people wait for Environmental Health approval. And on and on. Instead of helping, we seem OK with hindering those who want better for themselves and their country. It is not just boaters who are fleeing. It is anyone who wants decent service and gratitude for their patronage. We have not cultivated a helping attitude in this country. Those who wish for a better opportunity will not stay. Why stay? For more abuse? The Department of Inland Revenue has become a monster haunting this country. Unelected officials who are narrow-minded and have way too much power. We've done this to ourselves.
Why the secrecy of this government? We can see the wanton spending on new Family Island clinics that will never open, while our national hospital goes into decay. We can see the deteriorating infrastructure in this country as quality visitors decline. We can listen to the cagey words of our lawyer / PM and wonder who he's really looking out for. We can read day after day the scandals and corruption taking place with hardly a word. Sure, investigations are great. Now, where are the results? On any of these "investigations"? It is difficult to believe that this administration is honest, or working FOR the people. They seem to be gathering as much for themselves as they possibly can. Is this an illusion? And, why does the government take so long to pay the business people they've hired. Anywhere else, there would be consequences. Here, the only thing that is efficient is the need to pay these outrageous fees and licenses. Any thinking person can see that this government is killing our business people and our economy. Lawyers are trained to lie. Just like actors are trained to act.
Clearly, as well documented in this paper, the police have been no friend to justice. As in any jurisdiction where the politicians have become more than just representatives of the people, there are those who pander to their unwarranted power, leading them as far astray as the politicians in all their glory. They seem unable to check their basest instincts. The police, rarely the most educated in any society, merely obediently protect those in power. We see this everywhere, and the unearned promotions are good indications of the ass-kissing demanded, and given. No surprises here.
Anyone who continues to deny that the PLP Davis administration is beyond the appearance of a criminal gang is deluding themselves. This administration is destroying this country, and the little reputation we have left. They must go. But, who in their place?
Young, Your viewpoints on Israel are sickening. The whole world, seemingly except you, sees a genocide happening in front of our eyes. The UK has hundreds of thousands of people, many, many Jews in the streets protesting this genocide. Where is Hamas in Lebanon, or Syria, or Yemen. This is not self defense. Israel needs to be destroyed. Jews are not safe there. They are on stolen land. This is Palestinian land where people still hold deeds to their homes issued by Britain. What right did Britain have to give another's land to other people? Who do you Brits really think you are? But alas, reading your ignorant posts for some time now, I expect nothing better. Amazing what crap a good education can produce. Absolutely disgusting. Kids being starved to death and you ramble on like a self righteous idiot.
CCA and the Bahamian government fit together like a hand and a glove. Both lack honesty, integrity and sound business practices. Sarkis, while his intent was honorable, should have realized that this is a country of crooked sleazeballs and taken his money and efforts elsewhere. The sociopaths have an ability to identify each other and thus is born the PLP and CCA coalition. Do the papers not do a reasonable job of pointing this out? Where does one turn for justice in this country? The police? Immigration? The courts? The Office of the Prime Minister? Parliament? The Pastors? Let's be serious about the state of affairs here. And we wonder why our educated and qualified kids are fleeing in droves?

I think the general rule in The Bahamas is this: We just don't care. Show me a Bahamian government office, official, or a Bahamian politician, who gives a damn about anything other then their own well-being. They don't., A sweeping generalization? Perhaps. But, if experience is any guide........ We just don't care. Not about justice, not about our neighbors, not about our tourists.......... We just don't care.
