Even without foreign vessels, be assured that we will destroy our marine resources ourselves. Collectively, we treat our natural resources as a gift from God which we can abuse at our whim. One of the strangest interpretations of Christianity imaginable. We simply don't care about anyone other than ourselves. Future generations? A joke.
While the government spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on vessels and staff to patrol the local waters, they do nothing to educate our youth and fishermen as to the laws and the reasons for conservation rules in the first place. The Bahamas seems to be proud of remaining ignorant. Perhaps because most of our politicians and pastors want the people to remain this way so that they can continue their foolishness unabated.
The medical profession here, like everywhere, is all about the money. The insurance companies are right there too. The idea of providing good healthcare at a reasonable cost is out the window. It is all about the money.
I agree with most of these comments. However, when have we as Bahamian employees ever truly given value for the money spent on wages? Nobody can live on minimum wage. It is unacceptable. On the other hand, the performance of our national workforce, in general, especially government employees, suggests to me that many are totally overpaid for the work they actually do and the attitude they do it with. Right now, while the minimum wage is too low to live on, it is actually too high for what most employers get for their money.
And, when the pain for all Bahamians becomes inevitably worse over time, due to the overbearing weight of excessive taxation, and ignorant bureaucrats, rest assured Davis and most other over-paid and overweight MPs will be off to their other destinations. Not so for the vast majority of the rest of us hapless Bahamians. The writing is on the wall, due in large part to the words of these politicians not matching any such deeds, yet somehow these politicians keep coming out of office with much more money than they had going in. The fear of a robust Freedom of Information Act is that The Bahamas does not have enough jail cells for all those politicians who would almost certainly be remanded behind bars.
I am quite certain that I would rather live next to the missing person, than your sick, poorly raised self. Clearly you were abused as a child and lack the humanity that comes naturally to those who have been properly nurtured and well-educated Obviously you are a Christian in good community standing, and perhaps a politician.
The most salient question you pose. I don't have an answer, other than, when we started to raise children who have no respect for anything, not life, not the truth, not integrity, do we now have a group of people incapable of electing and producing decent leaders. The leaders we elect come from our society. They do not drop out of outer space. They are us.
