Dr. Minnis says,"....our trusted Police force could potentially be involved in the obstruction of justice that families and the citizens of our country need and deserve."
As if this hasn't been the problem from the very beginning? Potentially? Ha Ha
And then Dr. Minnis says, "This is a call for transparency, accountability and one that will remove the veil of secrecy from the individuals that are trying to keep our country and its citizens in fear; those who believe they are above the law."
How convenient that now is the time. You had your opportunity for transparency and accountability, Dr. Minnis. Every politician talks about this until it is time to actually do something about it, when they are in office.
There is NO accountability in this country, and even less honesty.
And, without a robust Freedom of Information Act even less transparency.
Like usual, these politicians speak with forked tongue, out of both sides of their mouths.

Porcupine says...

Right.
Anyone who believes a word spoken by our officials, be they police, pastors or politicians, hasn't been paying attention to the fact that all of them are total liars. All of them.

Absolutely right. However, I would ask in 2024, can we say that the vast majority of Bahamians are honest and hardworking? As opposed to "..simply not working for the vast majority of honest, hardworking, Bahamians. Over time, as with "the fish rots from the head down" and "you are the company you keep", I fear that the rot we see in our political leaders has permeated our entire nation to a degree that has changed the entire moral structure of society. Honesty is a virtue in rarity. The papers illustrate this on a daily basis. Preachers, politicians, lawyers, all have taken the low road for far too long and it didn't take 51 years to get to this point. This observation is made by speaking to many elders who have witnessed, and bear witness to the unarguable decline in our moral fabric. It is not an illusion or a baseless supposition. The current political apparatus is rotten to the criminal core. We see it everywhere. Imagine what we can't see. Do we truly get the politicians we deserve? A valid question, yes?

Mr. Rolle is well aware of the power of the IMF and international lending agencies have. They could destroy The Bahamas and bring this country to its knees if it doesn't fall in line with their dictates.
Mr. Rolle knows how to play the game, otherwise he would be job hunting next week.
Currently, due to our profligate spending and addictive penchant for borrowing, this country is spending 500-600 million dollars a year on the interest ALONE for the loans our politicians have taken out in our name Let me say that again. Over 500 million dollars leave our shores each and every year solely to pay the interest on the loans that have already been spent.
Every Family Island in this country could have reliable electricity, water, this century's internet and phone service, a first rate clinic or hospital, superb schools and well-paid teachers by 2025, but for the irresponsible and ignorant politicians we continue to elect.

"Mr White did not identify the “MP’s relative” he was referring to, and multiple other contacts spoken to by this newspaper also declined to name him for fear of victimisation."

It is not fear of victimization. It is the knowledge that if one speaks up for justice, they WILL be victimized.
There is not one honest person in this country who dares speak up that isn't victimized by this government, or anyone else with money and power.
Clearly, the environmental, economic, social and political destruction of this country is nearly complete.
And, The People remain virtually silent.

Porcupine says...

We are experiencing the exact same things here on Andros.
Our MP and central government are nothing but hot air.
They are completely insensitive to our plight. They are useless bullshitters.
This government is a complete and utter failure. All of them.
They spend like drunken sailors on things that benefit them, yet can't even make sure the people who pay their salaries have water, electricity and decent internet and phone service.
These PLP politicians are pathetic, from the PM on down. Every frigging one of them.
I can't say that the FNM are any better, but nobody can be worse than the jokers we have in office right now. Every one of them should go, Every one of them. The fish rots from the head down. Start at the top. This country is failing bad. What kid who goes off to get an education would ever come back to The Bahamas? Only fools would come back. This is a direct failure of this present administration. Period. They cannot blame anyone else. They have had enough time to fix many of these issues, but chose not to. Words count for absolutely nothing. Actions are what count. These politicians know they are lying to us. And, there are no consequences for their lying. They are stuffing their pockets as quickly as they can, stripping this country bare. They have absolutely no shame not one of them. Absolutely disgusting. And, they all probably go to church on Saturday or Sunday. I sure hope there is a God. He, or she, will shoot fire up all of their arses.

Porcupine says...

You are exactly right. The more I learn, the more I realize the entire country is screwed. There is no hope. Those who can see the writing on the wall will soon leave. The politicians know exactly what they have done and are taking as much as they can before it all collapses. As usual, those who are the poorest will pay the highest price. The PLP seems to be a criminal organization.

Porcupine says...

birdie,
Every time you comment, you hurt this nation.
You are one of the most clueless commenters I have ever encountered.
A true moron and a paid PLP troll.

Obviously, our tourism leaders are a bit behind, in every way, shape and form from those in the cruise ship industry. They are both vying for scarce dollars.
One is highly educated and experienced in the industry, and the other a politically appointed person with little real-world experience. And yes, Bay Street is a dump.

Porcupine says...

It is pretty sad that the level of our thinking has gotten so poor.
Why don't we just start charging for police calls?
After 50 years, we still cannot fund our own development?
Still paying huge sums to "finance" our development, and pay off loans?
Now, giving away some of our most treasured resources to those whose only goal is to make money.
Had we had some educated, moral and selfless "leaders: in the past and present, we would not be in this predicament.
Understanding basic economics would go a long way in helping us stay solvent, and attracting those who are willing to spend their money in The Bahamas.
Hell, even Tourism gives away free flights just to get people here.
But those in "finance" and "government" just can't see the light, can they?
All they think about is money, money, money, and how they can get more and more for themselves.
And our people, with a D- education, keeps believing this is good for the country.
Sad, hey?
