I have not heard how CCA is going to be held accountable for all it has done in and to The Bahamas via this project. At this rate, this hotel is going to open as a museum; a wax one.
Misleading the House is grounds for a Minister to resign or be made to resign. Not only was the House mislead on the matter of payment, but also on the Board being fired, which it was not. In our Parliamentary system, misleading the House is an offense whether with or without intent.
When a foreigner and his group felt attacked and violated by an MP in the House, there was all manner of outrage about abusing Parliamentary privilege. Now a Bahamian business woman has been attacked by an MP in the House, but that should be fine, yes?
> Mr Turnquest declined to provide details, referring Tribune Business to Kwasi Thompson, minister of state for Grand Bahama, as the Prime Minister's Office has primary responsibility for the Grand Lucayan matter
This guy is really a piece of work! Kwasi is a junior Minister who still would have to decline comment and defer to a substantive Minister. The hotels are in Turnquest's constituency for Christ sake and no negotiations can be void of Finance.
> “Everything I said is in the Hansard. I stand by what I said. I don’t budge an inch.”
The Board was not fired, but such is life in The Bahamas Parliament. Yes it is in the Hansard because the Hansard is simply a record of your words. But your words are exactly the problem in this regard. Just want the FNM to act at a higher standard than we have seen in Parliament over the last five years.
Are people here paying attention? Prosecute who? That is not what Bannister is talking about at all. He is talking about *civil* suits that the AG may or may not choose to file, not criminal charges being laid. And if anyone here is waiting on Carl Bethel to sue anyone, they've got a very long wait coming.
VAT was being pressured on The Bahamas since the Pindling administration in fact. And yes, many are oblivious to what The Bahamas would be signing away by joining the WTO, which is far greater than customs duties.
> As the debate continues, you will see how irresponsible the previous government was in that some of the issues could have been addressed,"
I'm just waiting for the FNM to stop campaigning and start governing, because it doesn't seem they understand that they are no longer on the campaign trail. The budget debate needed to be about the way forward in detail, but that is not happening.
Even in this commentary he made, where is the extra money going to come from for these persons in Grand Bahama. He is the Prime Minister. He must show where the money will come from. He cannot simply promise to give more money when his government claims the cupboards are bare.
The actions of the PLP do not negate responsibilities of Ministers in the Parliament. I too, wish to see the Minister of Tourism table proof of his comments, because it does not appear that the Cabinet fired the board as the Minister claims, and he also needs to state who the PLP Minister was who he claims gave instructions in this regard. The FNM cannot be expected to do as it wishes in the Parliament by using the excuse that the PLP has done such and so.

I actually didn't see it as racist in and of itself. It is in many respects true, though it's a painful truth to hear I suppose.
