Carl Bethel had better keep one very fundamental thing straight in that wandering mind of his that is all too often prone to mischief and deceit. It is the people of the Bahamas, i.e. we Bahamian citizens, who get to determine **directly** for themselves who is eligible to be a Bahamian citizen. Our elected officials are only able to determine by statute and regulations the terms, conditions and procedures by which constitutionally eligible individuals are to be conferred Bahamian citizenship. This difference here may be subtle and difficult for many to understand, but it is nevertheless a vitally important difference. Put another way, it was always intended that the right and privilege to determine citizenship eligibility should rest **directly** with the Bahamian people, i.e. be reserved **directly** unto ourselves through our Constitution, as opposed to being reserved indirectly by us through our elected officials. There are somethings we simply and rightly do not ever want to trust or empower our elected officials to do - the determination of who is eligible to be a Bahamian is at the very top of that list!
As Brave went about defending his reputation on the floor of the HOA, anyone present in parliament or later watching the parliamentary proceedings on TV could not help but notice how Minnis squirmed very uncomfortably in his seat as he pulled his head deep into his shoulders, very much like a turtle pulling its head into its shell; almost to the point where it seemed as if Minnis had no neck at all.
Minnis is learning the hard way that campaign politics is very different from actually having to govern a country as its government leader. Dealing with dissident MPs in opposition and Loretta Butler-Turner are child's play compared to governing a country like ours at this time in its history.
Many of the internal control weaknesses and irregularities in BEC/BPL's procurement and purchasing functions have for many years been reported annually to BEC/BPL's board of directors by the external auditors of the company's annual financial statements. All of this nonsense cuts across both the Ingraham and Christie led administrations and we must not forget that Minnis would have had access to information and rumblings about the shenanigans going on at BEC while he was a cabinet minister under the last Ingraham-led administration. So you're probably right Mudda. Nothing happened to bring the miscreants to justice in years gone by and nothing will happen as a result of these latest revelations. Par for the course....and to think Minnis promised it would be "the people's time." It's certainly looking more and more like dirty politics as usual rather than a serious intent and effort to bring the perpetrators and beneficiaries of corruption to justice.
How presumptuous of you to assume I do not have my very own computer! I'm deeply offended ;-) There are somethings one should not share unless absolutely necessary to do so. Next you will be saying Mudda owns my house. Now that would really tee me off!
Just more of the people's assets being given away by our government to the favoured few. It seems Minnis is no different than Ingraham and Christie after all.
Trust me, there's nothing altruistic about Craig Flowers, or Sebas Bastian for that matter. I laugh each time these corrupt thugs throw a mere pittance of their unjust riches to any kind of charitable cause in an effort to portray themselves as something that they clearly are not.
