It's not only the kids, it is their families and yes, there is the recourse for mental anguish and emotional pain and for sure if this goes to court, it will be much more than the graduating fees paid back to the parents.
Couple of things. If this goes to court and I hope it does not, the bishop, administrators at sjc will lose. There is a degree of expectation by the students who were not involved in the video and/or other misbehavior to have a graduating ceremony put on by the school as they did nothing wrong and paid their monies. Second, I would like to see this so-called contract the individual students signed as I dont know a minor can legally enter into a contract of any sort. Third, the parents/guardian or who ever was paying the tuition for these students for as long as the students for whom they paid, attended sjc ARE the ones with whom the school has an agreement and have the same expectation of as those students who were not foul of any ordinates. Fourth, and most importantly, if am living in a house with a family member who has been caught on camera to have committed a crime, how in the hell am I guilty of that offense if there is a video to show that I am not and was not there nor involved. Fifth, SJC has more to lose than these families; I wonder what enrollment September 2014 will look like after this fiasco.
Expand the powers of law enforcement agencies; create a separate branch of specialized officers call them Arms, Drugs and Corruption Unit; generate a Top 50 Most Wanted on a WEEKLY basis; give outstanding citizens extra-law enforcing powers to the extent of arms protection with the powers to shoot to kill; create a separate court for these cases and enact the Anti-Hooligan Law that allows for repeat offenders of violent crimes and gun possession to have their civil rights suspended and held indefinitely until such time the courts deems it suitable for release.
I propose an Anti-Hooligan Bill since we cannot call them Terrorist for international concerns. and it should be targeted towards repeat offenders of violent crimes and/or involved in weapon trade or illegal arm. These criminals should be deemed terrorists but, we will call them Hooligans. The Bill should read: Anyone who, through an act of criminal violence, causes the death of, or inflicts harm be it physical, mental or emotional to any person within the territory of The Bahamas, or damage to physical property, or supplying or cause to supply, illegal weapons and its instruments, and through his/her actions has a history of recurrent, repeated offenses of similar or more eggregious actions contrary to the Law, shall be deemed a Menace and Threat to ALL civil society and therefore, through his/her own actions be known as a Hooligan and as such, will be viewed as An Enemy To The State Of The Bahamas, and will cause to be put into effect every means necessary to the Keepers of The Peace and Defenders of The Law, to rid such person, without inpedence and/or interference from existing Law, from this Land. ANY discussion be it public/private of this Law will be deemed giving aid and abettment to Terrorist and will be subject to penalty by the courts.
