Firstly, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands saying the country expects a worst-case scenario of 400 cases of coronavirus, and that it would take a considerable period of time is totally, absolutely incorrect, irresponsible, and not based on a shred of scientific data!. Actually, – if you look at how the virus has affected Italy, weeks had passed since a first case before minimal measures were put in place by the government to restrict movement were put in place, and the result of this half stepping measure by the Italian government proved an unimaginable devastating failure and nightmare of epic proportions. The end result being the shut down of the entire country with a population of 60 million people.
The Bahamas can either learn from Italy's fatal mistakes, bite the bullet now and institute a "controlled" shut down of the country for 30 days to allow the virus to run its course, or we can play the normal idiotic, stupid political "wait until its too late" games and allow the virus to overwhelm us, resulting in the U.S. declaring us a "no go destination" due to unchecked Covid19 as they have done with the E.U.
This is a total no-brainer even for Christie and Ingraham. Let's see what our elected geniuses conclude.
Someone finally made President Trump understand the magnitude of this pandemic causing him to make the hard decision to ban travel from Europe due to the unprecedented spread of the Covid19 virus.
The Bahamas should have nothing to think about! Forget about short term financial losses and focus on the ramifications and unimaginable losses if we allow Europeans to infect the entire tourist industry for the longterm.
America has sensibly heeded the CDC travel warnings to Europe and took a further step by blocking Europeans from infecting the country by entering the U.S.
The Bahamas do not need to expose ourselves to this or any cruise ships, Europeans, and should include Americans until they get a handle of how severe Covid19 is in the U.S.
U.S. spring break students, European tourists everywhere, and now this infected cruise ship being allowed to land here is the beginning of the end for the Bahamas!
Dr. Sands is the only individual in the world with the ability to make such colossal conclusive predictions about a totally new, unknown virus while having absolutely no experience, no substantial testing, or any other scientific data!
Politicians becoming instant know-it-all geniuses on election day is the norm in the Bahamas. However, as Italy discovered, the Covid19 virus does not allow for "do-overs" and "corrections" to political missteps.
The negative short term financial impact the Bahamas would suffer by canceling cruise ship entries for 30 to 45 days is a minuscule drop in the bucket to the long term financial losses if the U.S., Canada, and others declare the Bahamas a Coronavirus tourist destination risk.
We MUST be proactive NOW or we will suffer dire consequences later!
The government should follow the U.S. lead and suspend travel between the Bahamas and Europe (including Uk) For 30 Days.
