There is absolutely no possibility that the small population of the Bahamas can cause the smallest dent in the fishing resources of the Bahamas.
The Nassau Grouper has been listed as endangered due to over-fishing, poaching and unregulated fishing methods by the Dominicans who catch them at any size 24/7/365!
A fixed season, with government-backed oversight, works for Bahamian fisherman, limiting the amount of grouper available to the local market, however, the Dominicans have absolutely no regard for our "fixed grouper and crawfish seasons".
To nobody's surprise, successive incompetent, corrupt, governments have been complicit and even rumored as being accommodating to Dominican poachers.
What are plans being implemented to counter Dominican poaching which threatens to totally destroy our fishing resources?
They targeted prolific offenders, members of organized criminal groups and wanted suspects, caught 21 persons, and NOT ONE former PLP or FNM politriction was nailed?
Typical Bahamian arm chair geniuses with nothing to offer but useless criticisms and smart talk. It's no wonder the dam Haitians are taking over the country.
The government needs pull their heads out of their backsides and "create" the incentive to make the Island of Grand Bahama attractive by making the entire Island a duty free shopping destination.
Every shuttered retail and hotel property on the Island would be sort after and the Island would mushroom overnight.
Send this Haitian girl and all like her to Haiti where they belong! She speaks Creole as her first language and knows all about Haitian culture. Hopefully, she will be there in time to celebrate Haitian flag day.
Now the Minnis administration needs to face the facts and admit under the present extraordinary conditions, extraordinary measures must be implemented in all haste.
Dr. Minnis must move swiftly to make Freeport and Grand Bahama the first duty-free shopping destination in the country AND sell Grand Lucayan resort hotel packages at $5.00 net, net, net above cost.
If they have better ideas on how to "jump-start" Grand Lucayan hotel, Freeport, and Grand Bahama, I would love to hear them!
