Mr. Watchorn told Tribune Business, "There was a clear expression from the room that retailers don't really see any benefits for the retail industry from joining the WTO,"

I can go a step further with absolutely no fear of contradiction and state that NO-ONE in business sees any benefits for any industry from joining the WTO!

Not one developing country can point to a single tangible benefit since their joining the WTO. Nobody with an ounce of sense thinks the Bahamas joining the WTO makes any sense.

Why are we joining a proven failed organization that every developing country in the world is complaining of being strangled by?

This is nothing new. Everyone agrees that corruption is the biggest problem in the Bahamas. However, **having a prime minister focusing on rooting out corruption is new.** Former untouchable pirates are now trying to figure out how to run for cover in this new global culture of stamping out corruption.

Corruption has always been, and will always be present in every country. There is no such thing as a country without corruption. The "level" of corruption and how countries address corruption are determining factors.

PM Minnis revised statement estimating corruption at $500M annually unquestionably caused multiple secret conversations among several small groupings of the so-called "elite" pirates that have thus far gotten away with this massive graft at the detriment of the entire country!

Please carry on PM Dr. Minnis. We the people have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of the identity of these pirates that have been robbing the country blind for more than 7 decades. We hope and pray you find them, defrock them, strip away stolen assets, and jail them for their crimes.

SP says...

Lol....what an asinine statement. Sounds like you are one of the pirates benefiting from "the peoples" natural resources!

Mr. Chipman is "the candidate-elect" for the Centerville constituency. He was sent to Parliament to represent the interest of his constituents, not to kiss ass, brown nose, and curry favor self-serving individuals.

Had Hubert one-man band Ingraham and Perry dancing clown Christie had "stand-up" MP's with substance like Mr. Chipman, many former PLP and FNM MP's that sat silently while these two failures totally crashed and burned would still be around today!

Please carry-on Mr. Chipman. We the people are with you!!

centreville mp Reece Chipman put "fake news" and "maximizing natural resources" on the table for Parliamentary examination, and you people choose to discuss "fake news." Where the hell are your priorities?

Finally, after decades of calling to expose secret deals, mystery, perceived corruption, extensive debates in and out of media, Mr. Chipman offers the opportunity of a lifetime to address and resolve the burning question of natural resources for the betterment of all instead of a few pirates.

**this is fantastic news!**

Congratulations MP Reese Chipman for tabling natural resources in the HOA. Thinking people understand that when properly utilized, the countries natural resources are the badly needed lifeline we need to tap into to educate our populace, stave off the national debt, improve infrastructure, boost ownership of local development, and enable social services to secure the generations of Bahamians left behind by decades of asinine political stupidity, greed, corruption, and failure.

On Davis: FNM 'mistruths' impacted poll

Unquestionably, people are tuned out of Fred Mitchell. He has no soapbox to stand on and needs to go away!

Everybodys' jumping all over the PLP for messing up the country seem to have conveniently forgotten that the FNM governed 15 years under Ingraham, and is responsible for far more irreparable damage to the country than the PLP governed 10 years under Christie!

Christie and Ingraham were colossal failures that covered up and watched each other's backs while a handful of pirates ran away with the peoples' natural resources. They are equally guilty of nurturing a culture of endemic corruption, which destroyed the country, marginalized Bahamians, and favored foreigners even when qualified Bahamians were available.

Regardless which of the dumb and dumber couple did more damage, we the people are totally fed up with the PLP and FNM.

It is way past time for the country to move away from these greedy, tribal, equally corrupt parties, and look for a new group without ties to corrupt pirates that have mislead the country for 7 decades.

SP says...

Bahamians are not stupid. So far PM Minnis is "all talk" about routing corruption. The FNM under Ingraham held power longer than the PLP under Christie so why haven't they mentioned a single instance of corruption in past FNM governments? And why haven't they addressed the natural resources issue?

Angola's President got it right when he dismantled decades of bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, parochialism, patronage, influence peddling, graft, and embezzlement in record time!

PM Minnis must realize by now targeting the countries leading endemic cast of corrupt pirates and allowing the old FNM gangsters into his party and inner circle was the perfect recipe for failure!

How could Minnis have thought he was going to root out corruption knowing top crooks would be affected? These devious people worked long hours to set Minnis up so he ended up exactly where he now finds himself.

The plan is to cause a no-confidence move on Minnis, force an election and have him replaced by a well-known pirate.

We the people see them coming and will vote the DNA into office before going back to the FNM or PLP!
