By far and away, this is the most ridiculous post I've seen on this website in many, many years. First off, killing off the sharks isn't going to "teach" the few that survive to stay away from shallow waters or people. Secondly, the mere presence of sharks brings in millions and millions of dollars to the Bahamas due to the dive tourism industry.
I've snorkeled at Green Cay more times than I can count. Most recently was just last month with my wife and kids. In all my years there, I've never once seen a single shark! Very heartbreaking and sad news. Also, and more importantly, no where in the news or article did it say anything about the tour operator feeding or chumming the water.
Short answer: 1) Money -- not enough Govt money to go around and/or improper spending of the money by the Govt; and 2) Education -- the dumber your constituents, the easier it is to govern & get away with sub-par services.
We are a country of many, many islands and many of our citizens rely on the sea to provide food and employment. How is it possible and why is it a reality that we don't have more boats and more ships to patrol our waters? Isn't it just common sense that we should have a substantially larger Navy and Coast Guard? Several easy and quick benefits -- it would provide more jobs to our young adults, they can spend more time on the open sea & visit other Bahaman islands, they can learn more about the ocean and boating, they could help keep the borders more secure, and more importantly they could help prevent this type of poaching and theft. What is so hard to figure out? Does anyone in our Govt have an education beyond the 5th grade?????????
Hiring more employees to help audit and go after folks that illegally evade paying their taxes and/or don't pay their taxes at all -- is definitely needed and brilliant. To get the most out of the investment of hiring and paying more employees -- be sure to go after the folks in the higher tax brackets that are purposely evading taxes.
What the HELL is going on!?!??!?!?!!?? Are we not living in the year 2022 or 1922????? Forcing these folks to wait 5 hours is unacceptable and criminal. There has to be a better, easier, and more efficient way to distribute the food coupons. Some examples... 1) mail them out each month directly to the citizen's home address; 2) if mail isn't possible, have last names A-H come in on Mon, I-R comes in on Tues, and S-Z comes in on Wed; and that is the process every month moving forward so citizens can arrange transportation way in advance; or how about 3) having enough coupons on hand every month so the Dept of Social Services doesn't run out.
"suffocate in masks?" No one has suffocated from wearing a mask. My wife is a doctor and has worn one all day every day for the past 14 years. Also, "secretly injected?" How are children secretly being injected?
110% agree!!!! Now that they are on the DCL payroll -- how in the hell are they going to be able to honorably and objectively monitor the environment and to ensure the DCL aren't doing anything illegal or damaging to the environment?
5 years? 5 freakin years?!??!!?? And still no school, post office, police station, health clinic, etc? Absolutely ridiculous and appalling. Yes, if the plan was not to repopulate and let it go -- that is one thing. But if the plan was to help rebuild, help the remaining citizens, and not to abandon the island -- then there is NO excuse.
