Yes, I'm a registered Republican in one of the highest tax brackets. Trump is not a real Republican. He pretended to be a Republican to get elected. In reality, he doesn't belong to any party but only himself. With that said, I am extremely relieved that he is going to form a new party called the Patriot Party. That way, he can separate himself from the Republican party and we can get back to what the Republican party really represents (which is NOT Trump or his views).
I'm confused. It's perfectly okay for the Bahamas to require a negative test in order to enter the Bahamas -- but it is NOT okay for the US to require a negative test to enter the US? The US is simply trying to implement a similar entry requirement that almost every other country on the planet has in effect at the moment (except for Mexico).
As if the numbers of visitors to the Bahamas from the US was already very low -- this will definitely drop that number even lower (which will hurt the Bahamian economy even more). It's one thing to require the tourist to take a test to enter the Bahamas (which I agree is a good and needed requirement), but it is entirely another thing to require the tourist to take another test 3 days prior to their return trip home to the US. What if that test comes back positive? Now the tourist is stuck in the Bahamas for another 5-10 days until they can get a negative test. In the meantime, they have missed extra days at work, their kids might be missing extra days from school, they now need to pay for extra nights of lodging, etc, etc. Why would anyone take that particular risk?
This article is TRASH. If taxes get raised, Biden said it would be on households that make $400,000 or higher in income. Based on that, over 95% of the households won't have their taxes raised. Also, if you are lucky enough to fall within the "over $400,000 income group" having your taxes raised won't have any effect on your living standard or goals. You will still be able to go out and buy a piece of real estate in the Bahamas (if you so desire).
Now with that said, by far the biggest threat would be the Covid virus and it's effect on the overall global economy. That is a much larger threat than the prospect of slightly higher taxes on the ultra-wealthy.
Maybe we could get Club Med to cover a portion of the cost? This might be especially attractive to Club Med since they have a substantial financial interest in San Salvador. Not too mention, to help ensure the safety of their employees too.
If one of the main issues is a lack of adequate healthcare and/or health facilities on San Salvador... how about fixing that problem? Why not build a new health facility on San Salvador? Don't the residents deserve that anyway? Aren't we living in the year 2021 and not 1905? Let's use this as an opportunity to bring San Salvador up to the modern times and improve their overall health system.
