Absolutely John. It is sickening that we are paying a profitable company to come here and pollute our waters. They have absolutely no respect for us or our country. We should make it very clear that if this happens again then they will no longer be able to cruise in our waters AND that they will be fined $20million plus the cost to clean up their spill AND all of the coastlines of every island they use. In fact, they should be made to sponsor beach clean ups and provide the volunteers with shirts which say some of this is carnivals sh*t!
We certainly do need a new education system. Most of the stuff that kids learn in school today is such a waste. Instead of studying about the second world war for 2 months and testing kids on what propaganda was used on what date why not spend a day on that and focus more about the Iraq war and the Middle East conflict and the war on Terror? Instead of doing music projects on Beethoven why not spend a day listening to some of the classical music and spend the rest of the two weeks talking about modern music and its influences? Only History majors and Music majors should need to memorize the day Beethoven was born and died and when he wrote this or that song or what day Hitler invaded Poland and France. We just need to introduce lots of things to middle school students. They don't need all of the detail. My eldest learnt so much crap about the German hierarchy but couldn't find Germany on a map! We stress them out teaching them so much junk just so that we can have a question on a test like - on what date did Hitler die. Why isn't it good enough to answer - at the end of the second world war? Why does it have to be a specific day, month and year?
Sad. It's not like the workers can't still earn their 15% gratuity... if they work for it. What their crying about is that it is will no longer be automatic, meaning free and possibly unearned in terms of service. It's like a car washing guy doing a really poor job cleaning your car and still expecting to get full price. Those guys EARN what they get, our hotel staff just want to get.
A common thieving mechanism used by the taxi drivers is "I don't have any change!". This is immoral and I consider it theft; these drivers should be reported! Nasty people!
Shallow thinking. All things change, salaries, job descriptions, necessary qualifications, benefits. Just because you get a certain sum today doesn't mean that you will get that forever. Why Bahamians think they can't get let go for any reason is mind boggling. We must change this immature thinking and work hard every day so that we don't get a pink slip the next day. We must call out slack workers as they can bring a whole company down. We must save for the future because we don't know how much we will need.
