Brian, you sure referred to a lot of glum data. But compared to the amount of date out there you only mentioned a very small part. There are also many positive economic signs out there at the moment, especially for the US. I am a pessimist by nature and I agree with your general view of the horizon, but I don't believe we need to panic at the moment. There is time still for us to plan.

Don't negotiate with our Unions - ban them. The union leaders simply aren't sensible people.

I'm wondering if the shooting of the victim was wrong or was it wrong only because he was killed. In other words if the officer shot him in the legs a few times, would that have been considered unjustified as well?

Needless to say our whole system of government needs to be overhauled and modernized. It is broken but yet these politicians stay with it, because they are the only ones who truly know how it works and how they can benefit from it.

The Bahamian dream is... to hope that one of your close school friends or a close family member makes it in politics.
The dream isn't to work hard and make lots of money... it is to be given a permanent government job or contract and make lots of money.
Sad but very, very true.

Is there a shortage of ambulances or is there a shortage of ambulances in operation (i.e. maintained properly).

Sad. But I'm not really sure why people would wait for an ambulance? Is it because if you carry someone into PMH you won't get served for 10 hours? Is it best to wait an hour for an ambulance and save 9 hours waiting in emergency?
Would a sensible solution be to carry your child to the EMS dispatch center (I assume where the ambulances are waiting) and let them perform emergency services there?
When my child had to be rushed to hospital I put her in the car and raced to the hospital with my hazards on, honking all the way. Not surprisingly there was not one police car on the long route to either try to pull me over or to give me an escort.
Another question... no one at the scene had a car they could have used to take the child to hospital?

This baby step is a leap forward for Bahamian governments.
