while this may be a legitimate accident, there is no doubt in my mind that an objective investigation would uncover glaring deficiencies ranging from the adequacy and currency of the the regulations, to oversight, enforcement, training and certification, emergency response procedures, etc., etc. All 3rd world countries are good at saying what is wrong AFTER things happen but seemingly impotent to proactively institute requirements that would prevent or at least mitigate the impact when things do inevitably go wrong.
doesn't take very much to declare ones self a 'consultant' does it? .. the late Paul Adderley (Cambridge graduate) used to say that word is nothing more than a euphenism for ' influence peddler'
Firstly condolences to family of the deceased and wishes for a speedy and complete recovery to the injured. I just hope negligence is not a factor. The Americans will want answers and we dont need any bad press but we all know there is no enforcement of rules and standards here. it happens with the aircraft operators and i would guess its even worse with the boat operators.
i can imagine the anguish over the loss as i have kids of my own. However reality is whether driving on Bay Street, Paradise Island bridge or any where else, the driver is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle.. like they say, exercise caution and care. hope the courts exercise good judgment so we dont become a litigous society like the US. 0nly persons who benefit from that are the lawyers.
the penalties are too mild in my view. terrorists should get the death penalty whether you plan it, execute it or provide support in any way, shape or form. we may not agree with or like everything governments do, but thats the way some kind of order is maintained. indiscriminate killing of innocent people solves nothing.
its easy to see how we are getting closer to the apocalypse.. evidence all over the globe of what happens to broke countries when they can't service the debt anymore.. we all have TV and newspapers but dont read or understand it seems. Argentina, Greece -- broke places. so you have legions of poor... riots all the time cause their pensions keep getting cut and people losing jobs.. thats whats coming if we dont get our asses in gear and face reality..
like i say before, the Bahamas is not the only place in the world that has these summer time thunderstorms... how do others manage to keep most of their customers with light while every time a rumble of thunder sounds near Nassau, we get island-wide blackout? I don't buy the argument that weather ONLY to blame..
'The fear is if we remove Bahamasair, ticket prices can be exorbitant.... If we remove the one mechanism that makes that trip a reasonable cost......"
That statement defies logic. i dont think the Minister seriously expects anybody to believe that a 3 plane operation, mostly carrying box toters, is in any significant position to affect the fares of the carriers mentioned. Indeed, some might argue that fares are already exhorbitant as is. Fact is, a broke airline cant afford $120m worth of aircraft and that loan WILL be repaid by the taxpayers. As for the domestic industry, it will never develop to its potential as you can't run a for-profit business against one that intentionally is not run for profit.
it makes no difference.. if he goes, he goes. if he stays, he stays. wtf? the sun will rise tomorrow. Some thought the world would come to an end when Pindling was voted out too. nothing will change because you have a few disgruntled personalities. Rollins, Loretta, Greg, all of them thought the world would stop turning on its axis based on their actions too. Give me a break... this life is bigger than any one individual.. has to be like that to ensure survival of the species.
they said they voted against VAT after consulting their people. Well they got elected on FNM votes so i wonder if they will consult 'their people', whoever they are, if they ever decide they want to make this decision? Folks were grumbling about Westminister system conventions after Minnis took action. Hope they also complain about how an MP can change political parties if they choose to do so using the votes that put them in the House from another party.
