All Minnis has to say is rising debt is a threat to national security, which it is. That alone is reason enough to raise taxes. What world are we bahamians living in where we want more amd more from gov't, the cost of everything going up all the time, but we don't expect to be taxed more? I mean every budget every year no new taxes... wtf? How long can that continue. Imagine in your family spending more and more, but no new income
they say the locations identified were already underperforming. in other words, they either weren't profitable or weren't profitable enough. Either way, they would have gone under anyway. Listen, John S George gone, Mauras gone, Cafe Johnny Canoe gone, Eastern Airlines gone, Princess hotel gone, etc. Such is life.. no need to make noise about this, jobs come and jobs go.
Now Minnis needs to study the 7 who were absent to see what, if anything, should be their punsihment. Thats the sissy way out, being absent. I'll bet they wanted to vote no, but didn't have the spine to do it so they called in sick if you like. I say any who don't have a solid, bullet proof alibi and holds a position other than MP, should be axed too. Lets get the message out, there will be consequences for your actions. no more free ride. like Bush said after 911, you either with us or against us. no room for fence sitters.
Again a concept alien to our society, paying the price or suffering the consequences of your choices/actions. These men made a conscious decision that they could not support their party on arguably its most significant piece of legislation for the year, the national budget. Thats fine, but be prepared for the consequences of that decision. This attitude in our society that we can all do whatever the hell we feel like doing without paying the price has to go... its called accountability.
the free world used to look to America for leadership on shared values. America was looked up to for help when the going gets tough. America was regarded as being steady and trustworthy, a dependable ally. Now, in the era of Trump, none of that holds true. A level of uncertainty exists like never before and it seems we are in an era where its every man for himself. Trump only sees money as justification for everything he proclaims from squabbling with Mexico, Canada and European allies, to stopping military training exercises with South Korea. Its America first and the hell with everyone else. Things are likely to get worse not better in the near-term, summit notwithstanding.
Bahamasair problem is most of the operation is domestic and the majority of thise routes lose plenty money. need to break out the international, give it nothing and just subsidize domestic since gov't wants the service even though the business is not there. Something still wrong with expenses though. a bahamian flying to Exuma pay almost same as a guy going to NY. figure that out...
Lloyd is right. this is the true test of gov't. are you going to buckle to pressure or hold the course? since we all know the debt situation, seems to me the choice is clear.
Those cheques didn't write themselves. most likely at least 4 or 5 signatures were needed to process them. So, that bring the case, what happened to those who authorized and approved these payments? You know about it, well do something. Same s*#t, always we talk about what happened and do nothing. Total lack of respobsibility and accountability..
nothing wrong with demonstrating in a democracy, but don't block the road, life still has to go on for the rest. Riot squad should be present for all demonstrations in the heart of the city, since if these things get out of control, extensive damage in that area would have a very detrimental impact on the tourism product. Dames slack in this regard as Minister responsible. Nobody likes taxes, but as written in the bible centuries ago, render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's. Aren't we supposedly a christian country? I guess we'll all sleep better if IMF dictate the austerity measures rather than us taking respobsibility for our own irresponsible spending over prior decades?
all the noise about web shops is, in my view, greatly exaggerated. Bear in mind, this gambling was always taking place, just underground. I doubt there has been a significant increase in web shop gambling just because it was legalized. if it wasn't already big business, nobody would have been so concerned about it.
