the time has come to look at this whole issue of affordable housing from another angle. seems to me, it would be far more efficient and economical to construct affordable housing towers, say up to 10 stories, in a designated area, containing units of different sizes. you avoid the land issue, duplication of utility infrastructure, etc. you would avoid the proliferation of ghettos and could provide gym, pool facilities, a little playground on site, etc., for each block of buildings to improve the general quality of life for all residents. certainly if left to themselves, none of this will happen and the areas will slowly but surely degenerate.. such a methodology would also present an opportunity for organized school bus service to cut down on the cars and foot traffic at school hours, while providing opportunities for bus service business, etc. and mitigating the risk of abuse of duty-free exemptions, etc. some numbers need to be run, but the economy-of-scale rule would suggest this option would be better use of public money.

McAlpine does not appear to be a team player in a pursuit that is all about the party 'the team', and not individuals. he has a right to view his opinions, but his gripes should be to his colleagues in whatever manner they meet to air them, not to the public via the Press. if we didn't know better, one would conclude when he speaks that he is in Opposition, not government.

interested to learn how you limit a PM to 2 terms.. we vote for parties in our system, the party chooses its leader and if they win, by convention that person automatically becomes PM. Are we going to now dictate to parties how long an individual can be their leader? seems a bit much to me...

Doc is right about the 'sick out'. it has to be addressed as its an illegal work stoppage. name one time in bahamian history when massive numbers of employees working for the same employer all called in sick and no contract dispute was in play... have balls, strike and let the man decide what his counter move will be, but stop hiding behind these illegal woirk stoppages and unlawful withdrawal of services.

again the english language is the problem.. Lloyd is not saying he is happy to dismiss people, he meant he is happy that the Ministry is doing its job to remove dead weight. there is a difference, but given the D- average educational achievement of so many bahamians of which he as Minister of Ed should be particularly aware, he should be careful when he speaks to the media to do so at Grade 1 language level so there is no misunderstanding.

this has always been an issue.. in a country this size where we mostly build 1500 sq ft houses, where can a pool of construction workers be found with experience erecting multi-storey commercial structures? this will always be the case. we need to know our limitations and not waste time with pie-in-the-sky rhetoric.

i understand Turnquest would want to make it seem Bahamasair sets some kind of standard thats higher than other airlines or exceptional, but we all watch NGC and the other documentary channels and know the regulators '(FAA and them) set the standards and the airlines follow or lose their licence.. simple. machinery failure will happen. its just the way it is. dont want the risk?, dont fly.

Socrates says...

well i dont know if its just cash. i took money (bank check) frm one of my bank accounts to put in a different bank here where i have an account, and despite already proving to 1st bank where the money came from, and despite having a bank check from that bank to deposit in my next bank, guess what, 2nd bank wanted to know 'whats the source of this money'. so its more than cash they are dealing with.

the tail can never be allowed to wag the dog. it follows that management's job is to manage as directed by the owner(s). Employees are just that, not consultants. someone needs to send these organized labour groups, who would be called crime families in another context, a message. Reagan did it to the air traffic controllers and the new man in Zimbabwe to the nurses. if you let them all go, the sun will still rise and everbody would know their place in the structure of the company again. order would be reestablished so to speak .
